Another Praiseworthy Vendor

Wet shavers seem to be blessed with vendors who highly esteem their customers - they deliver great products with great service. Lately, I've been fortunate to have had a few transactions with a vendor who merits acknowledgement, Revisor. The four vintage straights I have purchased from them have been in superb condition, look stunning in person and arrived very quickly (less than 10 days from Germany). From my experience thus far, they are a top notch addition to our community.

Yep, they seem like a standup company with ridiculously good customer service, and getting a razor from them is definitely on my to-do list.

Indeed they are. The gentleman with whom I have dealt has been exceedingly pleasant.

Henry, did you get an 8/8 from there?

No sir, I haven't gotten one of their new production blades (yet). Thus far everything has been vintage.

Thanks for the link - some of their NOS stuff is amazing! Did you get the 19% VAT-less price, and did it include shipping? Some of those prices are pretty unbelievable at that cost...

Thanks!

Dave

Any reviews on their razors?

I have this one: http://www.revisor-solingen.de/html/6_8_24.html and am quite happy with it.

It is a little heftier than other razors I have -- 55 gm. My others range from 36 - 52 gm except for a Le Grelot at 63 gm.

Please note that this comes honed but requires some stropping before the first shave (as mentioned in the email I received).

I was happy with the quick service all the way from Germany.

QUESTION: Can anyone translate the German text describing the razor in the above link? Google gives me this:

Mild steel, hollow, double-pronged approach.
Blade tiefgeätzt according to traditional methods and gold ..
Neuschmied.

Not all the words translated and some that did don't tell me much. ("double-pronged approach"?)

Normalstahl means "normal steel", i.e. not stainless. Hohl = hollow. Doppelansatz means double approach, it refers to the area between the tang and the blade. Blade has been deeply etched and gold plated by "tradidional method". Neuschmiedung means its a newly forged blade, not a traditional one liek the le Grelot. The price of 100 euros includes 19%VAT (for european citizens only).

Thanks you!

Do you know what, "mild steel" is? It appears in some of the discriptions of the blades

I looked at the Wiki to see exactly what that area of the razor (between blade and tang) was called and found this image, which names everyting in several languages, including German:
