What's new

And the winner of my quest for King of Tallow is...

So over the past year I gathered quite a collection of hard soaps and I have finally found an easy winner for "King of Tallow".

I've acquired over the past year the following Soaps: D.R. Harris Arlington, Tabac, Mitchell's Wool Fat, Art of Shaving Lavender, Penhaligon's BB, Arko, Speick, T & H Luxury Shave Soap, and GFT Coconut.

And the clear cut winner of King of Tallow is...TABAC :001_tt2:, a super slick cushiony comfortable lather, easy to manufacture and never ending, truly magnificent, but the only problem is it makes me sneeze like crazy!, plus it give me a headache for hours after I use it. Thus I find myself gravitating toward Penhalligon's BB (new formula), truly a godsend and very easy to work with, very comfortable shave and very moisturizing.

If asked to rate them it would be:

Tabac :001_smile
Penhalligon's BB :001_smile
Art of Shaving Lavender
D.R. Harris Arlington
T & H Luxury Shave Soap
GFT Coconut
Arko
Speick
MWF

Please Woolies... be easy on me.

MWF can be very picky about the brush it's used with. I found it impossible to get a good lather with my soft silvertip brush, and had to resort to a cheap boar brush I specifically bought for the occasion to put a sizeable dent into this headstrong product. I think I've cracked it, but the proof is of course in the shave, which will happen tomorrow.

Still, Tabac is a nice winner ;-). (And rightfully so, of course.)

It's picky about water too. If you've got hard water, forget it. You might as well use cheap bar soap. When I visit my father, I leave the MWF at home. He's got hard water running through his house. I could beat that puck to death and never get anything more than miserable soap scum build up. At home though, it lathers like a champ and is one of my favorite shave soaps to use.

Looks like I have some buying to do...Palmolive and Valobra, though I read that Valobra is essentially Art of Shaving or vice-versa.

Yes, I forgot about Williams. I bought a puck of Williams from Walmart ages ago. I tried it twice - couldn't get a good lather and I couldn't stand the smell - smelt something more like a sleepy-time tea, or the perfume a blue haired grandma at the bingo hall would wear :yikes:

Sleepytime tea and grandma's are two different scents...

At least we can trust your judgment.

You overlooked a soap that would rank near or at the top. Vintage old Old Spice!. This lathers like there is no tomorrow!

Obviously I still have lots to try.

But after using Tabac again this morning it's going to be hard to motivate me to even try anything else.
