amateur baseball

do any of you play amateur baseball for recreation? with the MLB being in full swing I've decided I want to play some baseball this summer, unfortunately, I don't know where to look to get more info on joining a team. I know teams are a dime a dozen in most states but I wanted to join some neighborhood team or whatever. the truth is, I haven't played baseball since I was a kid and I stunk at it. now that i'm an old geezer I think I can go head to head with anyone, but I only want to do it for fun. can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find out about joining a baseball team, or even trying to get one together?

There are local adult softball leagues organized through the park systems around here. They are co-ed and from what I understand a lot of fun. I would just call your local parks departments and ask about it. They may do baseball too, but I think most of the recreational leagues do softball.

Yep, your local parks dept. may be the way to go. Some communities also have organized softball leagues that are always looking for players. As a last resort, when your driving around notice of there's a group of older players in some of the local parks. Just stop and talk to someone there.

I checked the parks & recreation website and it looks like they only offer softball, not baseball. I find it strange that intramural baseball isn't readily available, unless you're playing for a company. I just wanna have fun this summer

Maybe it would help to try googling: Amateur Baseball Association plus your town/region.

I don't play but have spent the odd afternoon watching the Hispanic guys play pick-up in Central Park. That is some high quality ball... and the admission's free. Sport, like music, is twice as good live and even better with passion.

same here. before my wife and I bought our current house we lived right across the street from a park. every Sunday there were several latino groups that would play baseball....with nice uniforms and all. that's what I want to do
