What's new

Am not holding my breath

The USS Constitution, is the oldest ship in the US Navy still in commission after 200 years.
She has had virtually every piece of wood on her replaced except for her keel over the centuries, but no one would suggest that Old Ironsides is any less authentic than the day she was christened.
The Theseus's ship philosophical query playing out in the real/modern world! 🙂

I got this family watch not long ago and have sent it in. It is an Omega Automatic from about 1954. It has had a very hard life, as you can see. The original owner spent most weekends with it on his wrist running a chainsaw. For decades. When you move it from side to side you can hear and feel a, "Clunk, clunk..." that comes from inside. I know little about watches but it feels like the whole movement is loose. Am thinking that is how the hand fell off.

For those who can offer up some feedback, please weigh in. Is there any hope?

I had a self winding watch, Bolivia I believe, and the “clunk clunk” was the self winding pendulum. That is a fine watch and I would take it to a watch maker to have it cleaned and the hand re-fixed.

Well, I have felt like this fellow looking out the window as I waited for that watch to return. That is life with a vintage watch I guess.

Here it is with new watch hands firmly attached and looking as good as the day it was purchased in 1955. It took months before he was able to get to it and that was my first clue that the watchmaker was good. He only works on vintage Omega watches so I am glad it was done by a specialist.
