Am I the only one?

Who doesn't want a massive shave den?

I have amassed a mountain of shave equipment since I started on my journey for the perfect shave but it was always with the original intent of 1 brush, 1 soap, 1 razor and 1 aftershave.

This has expanded a little now I have 3 brushes (although 1 is currently borderline) and 3 razors in a regular rotation with another 7 or 8 I intend to keep and use but I have found my 1 soap and 1 aftershave as well as 2 colognes I really like. And to be honest aside from a couple of nice hones to complement my Norton and perhaps a nicer strop I really am content, if anything I'd like to see a further reduction of my stocks. everything else I have gathered has been earmarked for eventual selling, trading or PIFing.

My aim is to have a nice compact rotation I can easilly pack away rather than a massive 'Shave Den'. I love to see pics of peoples collections but personally this is not my goal. I scored this valet stand on ebay a while back and basically aside from spare blades, strops and hones I want everything to fit in it.

I first thought I would figure out one brush, razor, blade, and scent, and then possibly vary the cream. All that has gone out the window; now I enjoy a healthy rotation of all!

Unfortunately I think that The Immune may remain at a membership of 2 for some time since Coyotebd maintains the group and has not been active on B&B for some time.

Maybe in The Immune social group you'll find your compatriots.

Just think, If you join you just boosted membership by 50%

I'm trying to pare down to essentials only and it has been very difficult, mostly because I am still trying to figure out my idea combination. I at least have the razor and blades figured out, and have not bought a brush in a few months.

I posted about this in GSL group. I know I need to cut down, but I have no idea how. It's just too hard to cull the heard when everything has it's reason to be there, or might not be easily replaced if you change your mind.

Wanting for wisdom
I'm trying to keep things reasonable. I will admit though that it is a great feeling when I finish off a tube of cream or a puck of soap as it means I have space to try something else. Also when I order things from out of Canada I tend to buy more things than I need immediately to get more value out of the shipping costs.

lately I have been asking myself, what am I going to do with all these razors that I have accumulated. I have thought about selling some of them off. Even some of my collectors Items. I have actually PIF'd off about five razors now, and gotten two people into the ART.

Sometimes I sit and sau to myself..... "DO I really need a toggle?" LOL... Then the answer comes to me. YES! I do! LOL ...

Yeah, not included in my photo and collection to keep was the 'shaver grade' 2nd fatboy, 2nd plain flare tip ss, 2nd gold fat tech, 2nd red tip and a slim twist that I actually used before going onto GEMs. Most of them are on external rotation too. I lend them out to family/friends and they like it, they are welcome to keep if they are serious about wet shaving.
So far no serious takers :(

If I had the money and room for a large shave den I would love it, but seeing as I have neither, I would rather just see what works for me and only keep stock of those essentials.

I thought the same thing. In the last 4 months I now have 9 razors, 5 brushes, and a load of soaps and creams. But, I'm having a ball trying all sorts of combinations. I really like mixing a super lather using whatever soap and whatever cream mixed together to make a really slick shave.

I'm with you.

Right now I only have two razors (a flare-tip SS and a Tech) but I have one SE razor on the way. I have two brushes, but I only use one. I have a ton of cream samples, but I'm leaning toward soaps and currently I use VDH Deluxe and a TGQ sample. I'll probably spring for a full-size puck of the TGQ because I really like it.

I'd like to leave it at that for awhile. Maybe even a long while.

I used to use a puck of Williams, an old ragged colgate boar brush, and single blade Bic disposables for years.
When I re-discovered double edge razors, next came the better soap, then the better brush, then the quest for the absolute best.
To assure I have enough DE blades, I have a hoard of DE blades to last me 20+ years.
Soap I can always formulate myself and there will be cottage industries making it.
Brushes, 2-3 good ones will last a lifetime. Aftershaves are a mood thing and have always been with me.

As to why I need different soaps, I am not a creature of habit and like changing fragrances every couple of weeks.

Shaving baby skin and turkey necks
Wouldn't this be boring, having only one brush, one razor and cream??? This would be like using a cartridge razor and goo or brush-less cream, and Old Spice!
I really enjoy using daily a different cream, razor, AS and cologne - just what is my mood this morning, and I go from there....

Looks like you got a great deal on Ebay!

I have about 10 creams and soaps, but eventually they will be gone. I only have 1 razor & 2 brushes. So my kit isnt huge, I do find having a nice selection of creams including at least 1 of all the three T's good as when I feel like a shave I can select whatever I fancy. At present I think 10 is enough!

I don't think I've gone overboard on razors. Right now I'm in a Fatboy "cycle" , that's about all I use at the moment. I have a NEW and a couple of Superspeeds that will creep back into the rotation in time.

I have 3 brushes, a Shavemac D01, a Rooney special 3/1, and an Omega 31064 boar. The Shavemac and the Rooney are my goto brushes, the Omega is probably not my ideal boar, so if I buy any more brushes it will be to find that one boar brush that speaks to me. The two badgers are plenty to cure me of expensive brush acquisition disorder.

Where I have a problem is that I have way more soap and cream than I could possibly use up in a reasonable amount of time. If I wanted to pare things down to the essentials, I would have to sell a bunch of items I like a lot, but don't make it into the rotation on a regular basis. I haven't done this yet because I figure with shipping cost and discounting the items since they're not new, it's kind of a waste, and I imagine I can eventually use this stuff up. The only real fear I have is if some of this stuff starts to turn bad. The creams in tubs are my biggest fears since they are more exposed to oxygen than creams in a tube, and probably more prone to spoilage than a hard soap.

I am loosing interest in buying NEW razors at the moment... I am taking a different direct toward straights now... I bought 3 over the weekend (yes, what am I going to do with 3 of them as I do not know how to shave properly with 1)! I need to learn how to hone (there goes a few dollars to get the stones), strop (more dollars) and then, probably sell half of them because I don't want to pile them in my den like I'm doing right now!

It's all good fun!

I'm still working on those AD and every time I buy one razor I always tell myself, that's the last one... Well, it's not!

I do not intend to have a huge collection. I would love to learn and use straight razors, have 7 (one for each day of the week, honing will then be rare). But, I'm not there yet!

My problem is that I want to try all the items I read about on here. This is a whole new area of a simple life task that I've never experienced. To me, the experimentation is half the fun. I have no idea what works or what doesn't work, so I just have to try it all. Of course, that means I'll be accumulating a lot of items in order to do so.
