What's new

Am I the only one or have you experienced this too....

For some reason, I don't get face stinging from tallow-based soaps (at least none that I've tried so far) but almost all of my non-tallow based soaps do give me stinging when I shave. Three of the popular artisan soap makers that many of us have bought soaps from, along with Cade, all give me mild face stinging. I don't know why this--especially considering that many of these soaps are EO only or all natural ingred. I would chalk it up to FO but some of the tallow-based soaps have them and don't burn my face or turn it red. Is there something that the tallow does to prevent stinging and burning that veggie based soaps don't do? Has something other than tallow been taken out or replaced? Or, does it have nothing at all to do with tallow?!

It really frustrates me b/c some of the artisan soap makers really make a good product and I love using them. Any thoughts or insight? Has anyone else had this experience or am I unique in this area?

Which tallow soaps are you using? High concentrations of FO or EO is going to irritate some people.

A while back I noticed that tallow based soaps leave my skin feeling better than veggie based soaps.

If I were you I'd only use the soaps that don't irritate.

The tallow soaps are all the usual ones:

Penhaligan's
IM
Tabac
PC
AOS
Speick
DR Harris

To me, the most strongly scented are the first three but I get zero irritation from them.

To me its kind of ironic...veggie seems like it should be better for you (since veggies are so good for you) and tallow...well its fat!
