Almost gave up on the Aristocrat

I recently acquired an Aristocrat and had shaved with this razor 3-4 times with limited success.
I was thinking that all the goings on about the Aristocrat was just overblown hype.
Today I set up to shave after a shower but this time instead of the Dorco 301, I threw in a Personna blade.
I then loaded my Omega Pro with VDH, put a dollop of Clubman lather creme in my latte cup and whipped up a really nice lather.
I floated this in a sink of hot water.
I shaved methodically paying attention to all the basics.
After a 3 pass shave I did a final rinse and found my face was squeaking.
I rubbed my face and could not believe my fingers.
Serious BBS.
I splashed on some Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum /witchazel mix and went out to work in the yard
It is a hot day and I was doing a lot of running around and sweating and this is when I would notice any irritation.
No irritation.
Ok.....now I get it.

Back in the day, it wasn't all just marketing hype with Gillette. They actually made a great product. Today, they just make trinkets.

Glad to hear you made a breakthrough. Many folks find that the difference can be as simple as blade choice. That is why almost every man jack here will recommend that people get and try a blade sampler pack.
Take care, and good luck on your continued success.

The Aristocrat can give an excellent shave if you give it a chance.

I guess it just took awhile to click and also get the right combo.
I have only tried a few different blades.
I guess its time to throw some RBAD into the mix!

I used my Aristocrat several times with the Personna blade and not completely happy with the shave. I plan on trying different blades next month so I can see which one works for me in said razor. I love how shiny my gold Aristocrat is, but definitely seems to be in 3rd place for aggressiveness I am looking for. Maybe 4th place. Slim adjustable in 1st and the Red Tip in 2nd.

I have a very nice '55 Red Tip which I would be happy to trade for your very nice Aristocrat. While I love my Aristocrat, I never quite conttoned to the Red Tip. This is all about Goldilocks and the 3 Bears -- you need to find the combo that is "just right" for you.

If you should ever have the desire to do such a trade, please drop me a PM. I am in the market for a back up Aristocrat.
