Almond Shaving Cream

Hi All, I was thinking that I would like to give some Almond shaving cream a try. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good one? I was thinking about TOBS, but would like some additional feedback. Also it sounds like a stupid question, but what does a good almond shave cream smell like? I am assuming it has a kind of sweet smell to it with no spice at all? Thanks!

I have C&E's Sweet Almond Oil cream, and it gives me the #1 best shave I've ever had.

I don't really care for the smell, but the rich lather, slickness and cushioning while the blade works, and how good my skin looks and feels afterward far overshadow its olfactory shortcoming.

Unfortunately, C&E discontinued their SAO about a year ago, so you won't be able to find it anywhere. Most people that have some guard it jealously, and ration it out for those special occasion shaves like birthdays, weddings, job interviews, etc.

I haven't tried any Almond creams by other brands ... you would think that they'd all be about the same. But I've never heard anyone come up with a good substitute for C&E's SAO.

That being said, I would recommend you try one of the Almond products from the 3T brands ... being that they are English like C&E, I think that will be as close as you'll ever get to such a wonderful product.

I am one of those hording CE Sweet Almond Oil.

I have TOBS Almond and GFT Almond.

They both give a great shave, but I LOVE the GFT scent. YMMV.

Have just finished a short (two run) trial of TOBS, Trumper and D.R. Harris almond creams to decide what I wanted to get. Found TOBS and Trumper to be about equal in shave; Trumper has a bit brighter, amaretto aroma and TOBS is more muted and nuttier. D.R. Harris has a bright amaretto aroma that is a bit more persistent through the shave, but not quite as rich lather - close though. Am going to try a sample of Coates next. Looking for a good cream with a strong, persistent aroma.

Col. Conk has a nice smelling almond soap. Don't know if you want to go with a soap- and the stuff is cheap. And, what do I know, I'm a newb. ;)

I'm a big fan of almond-scented creams.

I really enjoyed the marzipan scent of T&H, but it only provided mediocre shaves for me.

I found the scent and shaves of Trumpers' almond to work much better for me. My father's in love with this stuff, he sings its praises to the moon.

Performance wise, I think D.R. Harris cream outshines both T&H and Trumpers, but the scent goes beyond marzipan to a cherry/amaretto note that I find a bit too strong.

I never really considered C&E SAO a true almond cream. Smells like lilacs to me. Strongly. It shaves pretty well, but not well enough to make up for the scent, IMO.

I'm looking forward to trying Cella and Valobra, they seem to be extremely well regarded.

In terms of soaps, I've been extremely impressed with Boellis Panama, which has just a hint of almond and is a dream to lather. I was really disappointed by D.R. Harris Almond soap, though, the scent smelled extremely synthetic to me. Shame.

Not sure if you would be willing to try some "canned goo"....but the Aveeno Positively Smooth Shave Gel has a nice almond/cherry scent to it.

I recently got a tube of the TOBS. The lather is normal high-quality Taylor stuff, and the scent is pretty good- I got the sweet almond smell (almost cherry-like) with a more nutty scent mixed in. My only complaint was I wish they had used more/ stronger scenting ingredients. It's light in the tube, I smell it better as I begin to lather it up, and it starts to fade pretty fast as the shave wears on. It performs well, but I personally want stronger scents in my shaving products- I find them half the fun!

I totally agree! This is what prompted my "persistent almond hunt". Like I said above, so far D.R. Harris is in the lead, but it still fades before I have finished shaving. If you make any significant discoveries, please let me know!

Well from what has been posted here, it looks like Trumpers has a slightly better shave (but not by much) and TOBS also has a slightly more muted scent. Do you guys agree? The only thing is Trumpers is about double the price. Is it really worth it?? I can buy TOBS Almond and Avacado the same price I can buy one tub of the Trumpers.

I like the scent of Trumpers a little bit better than TOBS (I find it a little bit stronger), and I prefer the performance as well. Trumpers does cost a fair bit more, but remember you do get a larger tub than TOBS (200ml vs 150ml). That doesn't totally make up for the price differential but it does help equalize it a bit. That combined with the quality of the product makes it worth it for me as I get good results with Trumpers. As always, YMMV...

You could always try out a tube of Trumpers first to see if you like it, which would cost considerably less than the tub.

If you really like Almond, try a couple of the excellent Italian soaps, P.160 and Cella. Very high quality lather and true Almond scent.
