Alfred Dunhill, Wilkinson Sword 7 Day Of The Week Set With Ivory Handel

"Look what I found"
A very exciting score from over the weekend. This seven day of the week set as a lot going on with it. It’s labeled Alfred Dunhill but it’s made by and renamed from Wilkinson Sword. Has all of its parts, razor, blades, and stropping tool. The razor itself is of high quality with machined brass parts, roller guard, adjustable head, and a very unexpected surprise. The handle is assembled with a ivory insert, nice. I have many ivory scaled straight razors, but this is my first ivory handle safety razor. Even the case itself of over the top. Wrapped in blue with purple interior liner. The razor holder is made from wood and the blade receptacle is constructed with machined brass. The wedge blades are all double labeled and look to still have the factory bevel. Have no idea how to use the stropping tool but I have my own technique for honing the blades. This is a nice score and elegant piece of shaving history

That is absolutely lovely!

Looking here: WilkinsonSword - https://wilkinsonsword.blogspot.com/ ... the Dunhill Set is listed as a definitive article. 1928. One of the pre-Empire Pall Mall sets. Again, absolutely lovely!

The stropper works like the GEM stroppers or the AutoStrop stroppers. You feed a belt through it, secure the belt to the wall at one and and hold the other. You then draw the mechanism back and forth along the belt. The blade will flip back and forth depending upon direction.

Personally, I found that less than successful and preferred to use an alternative attachment from my older Patent Roller Safety Shaver set, which is more like a stick that you push the blade into and can then use any strop much more like a straight razor.

Have a lot of fun.

YCongratulations on your score! It can be used with Gem blade, though I much prefer use it with its original wedge blade. I had one with stropper handle so it was useful when honing the blade.

I dry fitted with a CV Heljestrand wedge and it dropped in and aligned perfectly. I use that for a test drive. Also have and use a Kampfe Bros Star handle with stropping attachment for the work on the leather

Thanks for the link, a very informative site. With your explanation, understand the stropping tool but it will not see much use. I have my process down for wedge and hollow ground SE blades
