Advice

Hello all,

I just bought this Straight razor in an antique store and paid $ 10.00 for it.

I' completely new to straight razor and i need some suggestions in regard to it.

This straight razor needs work because is not sharp and I cannot shave it with it.

My question is: is it worth it to have someone hone it? Is this a decent straight razor for a beginner?

I'm located in California and if it is worth it to have someone hone it for me do you guys know of anyone able to do it?

Please advise.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome!! :001_cool:

It's hard to tell from the pics, but it appears that there's no nicks/chips in the edge, so it should hone up rather nice. Looks to be in pretty good cond, so I would send it to someone to have it honed & you'll be happy you did!

That is great find, and a true bargain!

There seems to be little or no rust on the edge, and the rest seems to be patina. There seems to some rust near the pivot, which, in my mind is quite common, and does not affect the functionality of the razor. I would suggest that request one of the members of this forum to hone it for you and start using this time neglected beauty. Good Luck!

Best regards,

Go for it. Ask the honemeister to mute (dull) the point so you'll be less likely to skewer your cheek.
