Adjustables...What Am I Supposed To Be Seeing?

I have been shaving with my Slim Adjustable for a good bit now, and I have several more of them along with a couple of fatboys. For the life of me, I cannot see what actually changes when I change the settings. There is no visible change that I can see.

I can feel the difference with the one I use, but when I open the doors and click through the numbers I cannot actually see what is causing the blade gap adjustment. I have one Slim in particular that clicks through all the numbers, but from the looks of it, I'm not sure it's actually adjusting.

What am I missing or not looking at?

It was hard for me to see it at first too. Come to find out my Slim was broken. You should see the distance in the top or bottom of the opening change from the blade. Err..distance from the blade to that.

Another way is to use a piece of paper or something to see if it's adjusting. Just put it in the gap.

Do you notice any difference when you shave with it on different settings?

The adjustment changes the gap between the cutting edge of the blade and the safety bar, and hence, makes it more or less aggressive. (Higher numbers are larger gaps, equaling more aggressive.)

You might not see the changes with the doors open, and with the doors closed, you'd probably need a micrometer to measure the different gaps.

But if you can feel the difference when you shave, that's all that counts.

That dial is threaded on the handle. Twisting it up to 9 raises it's position on the handle. Resting on top of the dial is the adjustment plate that just sits loosely around the handle. The dial pushes that up. The sides of that plate have 4 little pillars that come up through the blade tray. The higher the setting, the higher they hold the blade.
