Adjustable razor question

This question relates to adjustable razors in general, and the Parker Variant in particular. When you change the settings from mildest to more aggressive, what is actually changing on the razor head? Is it increasing the blade gap, blade exposure, or both?

Also, does anyone have the blade gap and exposure numbers for settings 1 through 5 on the Parker Variant closed comb? I haven't been able to find them. Thanks

Depends on the razor. With the Parker Variant it’s the blade gap that changes; as you increase the setting it raises the top of the razor and the blade further away from the safety bar on the bottom.

Gap/exposure/angle are always linked. When one of them increases, the other two will also increase.
However, different adjustment mechanisms allow us to see which factor a razor brand prioritizes, which may involve the user's intuitive understanding of "aggression."

Of course, it would be best if the brand could clearly disclose all parameters. Even if different blades may cause errors, it can still help users adapt quickly. Unfortunately, many brands such as Parker do not provide information such as gap or exposure.

Luckily we were in B&B and someone here measured its gap information.

Since exposure is smaller + affected by the blade, it will be more difficult to measure, with fewer brands or razor enthusiasts providing data.

Please note that due to manufacturing methods and quality control factors, these data may still vary between different units of the same razor model.
