I leave my slim on 3 most days. My futur is pretty efficient left on 1. In both cases I do one pass WTG, one XTG and I'm done.
i go 4 on neck 5 on face. i want to try 9 soon
I rate the settings on my slim like this:
1, Nancy Boy
2,3 Mild
4,5 Medium
6,7 Aggressive
8,9 Stoopid
That said I have mine set at 8 with a fresh blade, and dial it back a bit on subsequent shaves.
3 or 4 on my fatboy depending on what soap/cream I'm using
7 on the slim all the time.

I set my Fatboy to 6 WTG & XTG, and dial it down to 4 ATG.
On my Slim Adjustable (my daily shaver these days - with a Treet blade, usually), I set it on 4 for the first (WTG) pass, then dial down to 3 for the XTG and ATG passes to follow. My beard is normal, but my hair is very fine, and I have somewhat sensitive skin.

Fatboy on 5 for the first pass, 4 for subsequent passes.
A very delft touch. Technique is everything. A higher setting with a sharp blade can result in a closer shave with fewer passes thus less irritation.
Slim on 5 for WTG, then 5 again for ATG. Dialed back to 1 for ATG on lower lip, upper chin area (prone to irritation here)
