Adding Glycerin to Lather?

It can help fluff up the lather. Glycerin is also moisturizing and can help with the comfort factor of the shave by also adding lubrication

I got a puck of VDH pink that I added a few drops of glycerine (and a splash of Master bay rum) to before I re-melted it into an old SC tub. It seems to help the moisturization and glide a bit and gives it a GREAT scent, but also makes it just a touch harder to raise a good lather. Not a bad addition IMHO, but as they always say, YMMV...

Did he soak his brush long enough?

The lather looked a little dry, does adding glycerin change the texture? I'm curioius as I add no glycerin to shave cream.

Where would you buy it from?

pretty easy to find in most drug stores... usually in the, um, "stomach" (but lower down) problems section.

I think it would also be more useful to add a tiny amount (which is all you need) to the soap before lathering not after lather has been created.

Search the term "Uberlather", much has been written about it on all the forums...

In general lather goes

Soap
Cream
Superlather = Soap&Cream
Uberlather = Soap, Cream, & 4-5 drops of Glycerin

Edit: Not all combo's of soaps and creams work as Uberlathers, some don't work at all, some will blow you away with how smooth they make the shave... Trust me here the lather really does make a difference

Add 1-2 drops per oz of aftershave for a treat too...

you can also buy little bottles (the same bottles as vanilla essence etc) of it in the food sections of supermarkets for like 75p, would be a good way to try it, dont know about the US but id imagine its the same.

Hey has anyone seen the mantic59 videos on youtube? He has video on superlather. The best glycerin based soap I used is Col Conk. The glycerin makes the lather the slickest stuffy you ever used.

My recipe of Sunday August 9:

a) PRORASO Green Tube.
b) A few drops of glycerin and
c) A few drops of Fruit of the Earth 100% Aloe Gel.

I used a Merkur 38C (Barber Pole) and a Merkur blade in its second use. My brush was a cheap but great Omega Pure Badger.

:yikes: WOOOOWWWWW :yikes:

It was a BBS "orgiastic" shave, one of the more protectives and confortables that I have never experimented since I begin with this hobby in July.

Wal-mart has a great glycerin in there pharmacy section. I paid 3.50 for a fairly large bottle. Just add a few drops to your lather and the bottle will last a long time.

I'm sure adding a few drops of glycerin will not hurt . . . If it helps go for it. . . I keep some around for bubble blowing . . . my wife is a ex primary teacher.
