What's new

A very pleasant supprise this morning

Good evening Gents:

I have been using Williams shave soap for about 20 years or so when the supply of Old Spice dried up. I was always relatively happy with it as it gave me very good lather without spending too much time whipping it up, cost a whopping buck or so, and was always readily available. From time to time I would also use Mama Bear's products too, and was happy with that brand as well.

One of my friends gave me a puck of Van Der Hagen about a month ago but until this morning I had not tried it. This morning I opened it up and gave it a try.........VERY IMPRESSED! Moist, rich thick lather, more lubricity than either the William's or MB's, and gave me a great shave. I called my friend to ask him where to purchase a few more pucks and he told me it is available at any Wallmart. I stopped in to the local Wally World this afternoon and I was shocked to discover that it only costs $1.54 per puck. I bought all the 8 boxed that were on the shelf and I think this will be my new standard go-to soap.

Really good stuff!!!

This stuff is good. In fact, I just wrote a review on it tonight. Surprisingly good for it's price and "low budget" presentation.

Your thread inspired me to drag out the VDH this morning. Used a vintage Surrey badger brush that I loaded for about twenty seconds. I was able to fill an Old Spice mug with enough lather that it was almost spilling out of the mug. Jammed a Ted Pella blade into a 1924 Ever-Ready and got a flawless shave. Plenty of lather for a two pass shave, plus a head shave.

VDH really is an outstanding performer that leaves my skin feeling great afterwards. If it came in a fancy package with a hard to pronounce European name it would probably sell for $25 a puck and get rave reviews.:biggrin1:
