Unusual scales. What do they represent?
I'm not certain. I had always assumed it was a plant stalk but can't find a plant that looks like that.
It may have just been an easy, unique, mold to make. It is the only example I've seen of these scales but I'm sure there are others.

A is for Aust and Azuma. Not sure why the Azuma faces up only if the edge points up, maybe the rubber handle was put on backwards??
