well finished off my shave today and without thinking splashed on some mont st michel cologne, does this stuff have any after shave properties? or can i go over the top with something that'll do my face some favors?
Esprit de Parfum (ESdP): 15-30% aromatic compounds, a seldom used strength concentration in between EdP and perfume
Eau de Parfum (EdP), Parfum de Toilette (PdT): 10-20% (typical ~15%) aromatic compounds, sometimes listed as "eau de perfume" or "millésime"
Eau de Toilette (EdT): 5-15% (typical ~10%) aromatic compounds
Eau de Cologne (EdC): Chypre citrus type perfumes with 3-8% (typical ~5%) aromatic compounds
Splash and After shave: 1-3% aromatic compounds
Why is this important to know, because different concentrations are for different purposes. You will usually see EdP, EdT or EpC on many colognes you buy but aftershave is different as it contains less aromatic compounds.
What makes aftershave different is that will contain ingredients that will help reduce razor burn, like witch hazel, moisturizers, and menthol (for that nice cooling effect). The scent of an aftershave usually dissipates within an hour.
EDT's, EDC's and EDP's the concentration of scent is much higher so the scent will last much longer. The scent can last 8 hours or more, but that also depends on the concentration and the reaction of an individuals body chemistry.
Overall I would not recommend using an EDT, EDC, or EDP on your face as it may dry your face and do more damage than good.
See if your cologne has an aftershave version and use that instead. A lot people tend to layer and use the same line of products from shaving cream to EDT. Examples are Taylor of Old Bond Street St. James Collection, Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet, and Speick.
yeah i rubbed in a bit of proraso after and we feel much better, no problems mixing the 2. thats some very interesting info as well. learned something very interesting today as a result of all of this.
You only 'need' cold water after a shave - everything else is gravy.
If your skin reacted OK to the cologne, that's the only test you need to worry about.
