A Question About The Basic Tools Needed

Without Braking The Bank, What Are The Basic Tools Needed to Drill Out a Knot from a Shaving brush Handle?
Also, What kind of precautions (If any) Should be taken when Doing This?
And should the Handle be Held in a Vice type Thing, if So What would you guys Recommend?

For me i just use a basic cordless drill to bore out a hole as necessary. I use the steam method for removing the knot and have had good success with that. Then its just a Dremel would be nice but not needed and just sandpaper or polish as needed. All that's left is the obvious epoxy stuff.

I've actually had success just doing it by hand. I use a regular single edge blade to cut the bristles down as far as they will go, they use a very fine exacto type knife (I actually use surgical blades, but same idea), to sort of dig into the knot in circles. After 5-10 minutes or so, you will have cleared out enough of the density to be able to use a drill-bit and "drill" into the knot. I just attach the drill bit to a screw-driver handle, and dig in. It takes longer, and it's not going to work if you have arthritis, but I haven't met a knot I couldn't get out this way. I only do it because I don't have a vice, and I dont' trust myself to free hand it with my drill. But so far so good.
