A pomade for long hair?

Hey folks,

I'm looking for some advice on choosing a pomade for long hair. First off, I've been growing my hair for the last two years and it is now about shoulder length. My hair is thin yet wavy and I simply comb it back. The problem is it is parting in the middle and hanging on the sides but not completely. What I want is to comb it back straight and use a product, (pomade?) to keep it straight back. Ideally I would like a pomade that washes out easily, (water based?) and it doesn't have to leave a shine but it's not a deal breaker. Finally the scent doesn't matter as long as it is not overpowering.

Thanks,

Might want to look at products from Suavecito and Layrite. They both make very similar water based pomades. Decent hold, re-combable, and they wash out with no fuss or special shampoo. in regards to smell, they are pretty non-descript, maybe best described as "fresh".

Cheers,
JW

I have been pleased with American Crew's pomade. My hair used to be almost shoulder length, but is now just below the top of the collar, and AC has done well for both lengths.

BR,

Tim.

+1 for American Crew ... they make several different products that might work. The one I like is called "Fiber" but their "Pomade" might be better for your type of hair. Buy the small travel sizes first to test them out before you invest in a large can.

Good Advice

Just a follow up. My barber told me to try American Crew "Fiber". She told me it would work better than a pomade. The local stores didn't have any however a sales person told me to try a generic version. Did so and it is working out pretty good. Also my lady barber mentioned that one day I won't need any styling aid as she is planning on growing out my hair so it will be in a ponytail. Just hope it works for me. :001_unsur

Suavecito is the best hair product I've used. Different animal than American Crew.

AC is a lot more of an oily/greasy product. My hair is wavy to curly, and AC tames my waves and keeps the hair flexible without really holding it in place. It can often look kind of flat and greasy. Essentially, it looks like an old Brylcreem ad, except the hair flops around when it's long:

The Suavecito stuff on the other hand is like a very, very thick gel. It holds the hair in place like it had gel and hair spray and can really straighten out my hair. With this, I can get the Don Draper look:

It dries stiff, but if you brush it, the gel breaks apart and your hair feels like normal, except it retains a lot of the shape that it was held. I think it's a great look. A lot like this (notice the hair falling in the face):

Picked up "Trendstarter Matte Finishing Wax" which the sales person told me is just like AC fiber. It is a generic version of AC fiber. Hope it works tomorrow as I'm going for a job interview. Got to look my best.:001_cool:
