A nostalgic last shave

This mornings shave was most likely my last shave with my old friend and stalwart shaving partner Col. Conk pewter handled shaving brush. This brush, which I believe was manufactured by Vulfix, carried the majority of the shaving brush load for over fifteen years. The best badger knot which is listed at 22mm, certainly served me well but has developed a condition of shedding that has become terminal. I am very fond of the handle so it will be lovingly rebuilt. It carried me through many miles of travel in which it was most likely rode hard and put away wet a few times too many. My current stable of fine brushes has moved this brush to only occasional use. The rebuild will move it back to its rightly place on the front line.

Thanks for listening to my nostalgic thoughts.

Regards,

Doug

You've written a very nice tribute to an old friend.

I didn't know that Col. Conk made a pewter handle brush ... was this a limited edition?

Please post before and after pics when you do the restore.

Thank you David. I believe that this brush is still available. It is the Col. Conk #1020 brush in full volume best badger. I will post pictures as I proceed with the restoration.

Regards,

Doug

Good luck with the restore. It will be nice to be able to use a great handle to full advantage again!

It is absolutely not goodbye. This brush handle will definitely get a full detail restore with a very nice knot fitting of this excellent handle.

Regards,

Doug

You're in gooooooooooood company. I have only used a brush 7 months and I'm 55-years-old. I already have sentimental feelings toward my gear. :001_smile

Goodbye, hello! That`s the way to take care of a good, old friend. Great story, and be sure to post pictures when your friend is "dressed" up properly again!

Gentlemen,

Forgive me for bringing this old thread forward again but when I posted about a brush restoration that I recently completed, I realized that I had not posted pictures of my restoration of this handle. It is one of my favorite handles so I selected a Shavemac D01 two band bulb knot that I purchased from Rudy Vey. It is a 24 mm knot set at about 49 mm. It is an outstanding brush that I enjoy using with both creams and soaps. I find that I reach for this brush frequently. It is good to have my old friend back in service again. When I take it on the road now, I treat it with more respect...which it richly deserves.
Thanks for your indulgence. The last picture is the brush prior to restoration.

Regards,

Doug
