My first badger - recommendations? (I know, I know, difficult topic...)

Maybe for my second badger brush. The only model I can see on the website is north of $250...
I got mine before this last round of inflation hit the world... So I didn't pay close to that much. I would check out YourShaving or Gifts and Care.... both often have better prices that either SV website.... Their handle choices aren't as extensive...but if you are looking for a handle they don't carry and aren't in a hurry... They'll add one for you along with the next order they place with SV.

My favorite badger knots are Semogue Finest, Shavemac 2-Band, Simpson Best, and Boti SHD Black. I also like Simpson Pure, Yaqi Pure, DSC Black, Boti Pure Yaqi 2 Band and DSC Manchuria 2 Badger. However, I would consider all of them scrubby backbone brushes, rather than soft brushes like OP requested we recommend.

While Boti Captain, TRC Manchurian, and some others are softer, they are not my favorites. If I wanted a super soft brush, I would just use a synthetic. I don't see the point in treating and softening natural hair extensively when synthetic hair is softer and has a bunch of other advantages, especially price.

Semogue Saturdays!

Hello friends

Rainy Saturday. Perfect for my favorite soap: SV Morado, which together with the mighty Pegasus Mistura was fantastic. I went back to Greencult 2.0 II, today with the Gillette Platinum Light Blue (1) blade from PPI, quite sharp. I finished with Floïd The Original.

With us, the magnificent Bill Evans Trio.

Rating: 10

Have a wonderful weekend and great shaves!

I use my Pegasus Mistura in my pre-shave brush rotation... It's an excellent brush, esp. at that price range... To me, I'm not sure I could have done better... The only other brush that competes with it in that $100 range would be the Zenith Manchurian badger.. in whatever handle suits ones fancy... I have mine in a 506 Copper handle... It's a lovely brush.

For a Price Point of $100.00 - $150.00 you got many options, in what I call production BRANDs like Omega, Frank's, Semogue, Zenith, AP, and a few I am sure I forgot. Even at that price point RudyV could do you a nice brush with great Knot.

I contacted Rudy Vey yesterday to see if there is a way for him to provide an entry level badger brush at the $100 price point.... He said he can do that in 24mm choices, so for those looking for a quality badger knot with a custom Rudy handle, PM him and start a discussion.

As many of us know, Rudy is a stand up guy, a great addition to the B&B vendor list. He's already re-knotted three brush handles for me and made me a custom two-tone brush handle with deep red caps, top and bottom with a patterned faux ivory middle section.... I can't repeat it enough... He's a fine gentleman with whom it is a pleasure to do business...

I also have a wonderful synth brush from Rudy, with a amboyna burl handle and he made me a custom Perian Jar handle to go with one of the last Mozingo knots before they closed up shop... So, whatever your needs are, from an entry level brush to more demanding needs, Rudy is an excellent resource..
