What's new

A new addition to the growing collection!

Well its new to me anyway!!

So I picked up a W&B FBU recently, a full 8/8 (17/16 at the widest) It had been restored, still a little visible pitting, but in very good shape!

I took a picture of it next to a 7/8 that I restored for comparison. I know you pros have seen many of these, but it is my largest to date. Now I am hunting for a FBU near wedge hopefully 8/8...

Wow. Those are in excellent condition.

I'll give you a quarter for the big one. Plus a dime for the little one.

Very cool, nice pick-up - congrats!

I just stopped searching the 7th one to complete a set I'm putting together - so you may have a better shot at finding one now.

Very nice looking straights. I would love to use one but am afraid of the learning curve. Well for me back to the DE and SE for now.

The grind I believe, would be a half hollow. Shave? Not sure yet, I'm working up a 5 day growth for the initial run! lol!!

It is a great piece, with a lot of heft. I love the height of the tang, seems the control would be very nice.

Thanks guys! Well just gave it a test run. It does need a little edge work, shave was ok, just a wee bit of tugging. The tall tang helped with control, some jimps would go a long way. I have a goatee, but think under the nose could cause a guy grief, as getting close to the ears was awkward. Shave about 80% of the head, but due to the edge not being quite up to par, I laid it down for the moment, and picked up the 7/8 to finish. Even for a blade this size, it sang to me! A sweet high "ting" at the end of a stroke, and during a stroke, it wasn't quiet. All in all, money well spent. I like it!

My 76 year old father-in-law is staying with us for a bit, and he was quite taken by its size! Made me smile!
