365 shaves in 2021.

Shave 234 - 234 of 234
  • Blackland Tradere SB.
  • Polsilver SI (my remaining Polsilvers will be PIFed this week, making this my last Polsilver).
  • Rudy Vey Persian Jar with a Shavemac 2 band silvertip.
  • MdC Original.
  • Dickenson’s WH.
  • Fine Latigo AS.
An overall excellent shave.

The Blackland Tradere SB is my daily driver and really hits all of the marks for me.

The Polsilver blade while loved by many works well for me but there is something about how it feels while shaving that I’m not crazy about so my remaining Polsilvers will go to a home where they can be better appreciated.

The Rudy Vey Persian Jar is set with a Shavemac 22mm (Rudy measured at 23mm) 2 band silvertip knot which is my favorite knot. 2 other brushes all have the same knot and each is a joy to use. The Beagle may have the most backbone and the 2018 LE may be the softest, but the differences are not great. There are a lot of truly excellent brushes made, but Rudy’s brushes are always wonderful.

MdC Original has become my top soap. The 130g size in the La Canele bowl was my introduction to MdC. I just purchased this same soap in the Brain Bowl but don’t expect to open it for months. Over 100 shaves in to the 130g size I have no reason to believe I won’t get another 100 shaves or more from it. If I had to use just one word to describe MdC, it would be “clean”. I really enjoy this soap.

When home I always finish with Dickenson’s WH and then a splash. Today’s splash was Fine Latigo.

Given my propensity to ramble on this forum, my next post to this thread will be at least a week and probably several weeks from now. I fully intend to be 365 of 365 on December 31st.

Sunday 22nd August, shave #234.
Preshave: Hot washcloth
Soap: MWF
Brush: Men-U boar
Razor: GC.68 SB, Wizamet SI #7
Post-shave: Nivea Balm, Blue Stratos AS.

The Wizamet was still OK on shave 7. Had another insect bite to work around, but good result apart from that.

Monday 23rd August, shave #235.

Preshave: Hot washcloth
Soap: Palmolive
Brush: Men-U boar
Razor: GC.68 SB, Astra SP #1
Post-shave: Nivea 2-Phase Lotion.

Took my time with a fresh Astra SP. Apart from skipping the insect bite, that was about as perfect a result as I've managed. BBS face, and smooth neck without irritation.

Wednesday 25th August, shave #237.

Preshave: Hot washcloth
Lather: Gillette Gel
Brush: Men-U boar
Razor: GC.68 SB, Astra SP #3
Post-shave: Nivea Balm.

If you treat this canned gel as a cream, and bowl-lather it with plenty of water, it works surprisingly well. I get a harmlessly neutral post-shave (no benefit, no irritation).
