Just received 3.5" red leather strop by 30 Degrees. It is a single two sides strop. One side is a rougher dull side, somewhat chalky. The other is smooth shiny red leather. How the heck do i best use this thing? And how do i maintain the rough side, is there a paste or something applied to it from the factory? Thanks!

If it's like the other Solingen production of its kind, the backside is more or less encased. So my suggestion would be that you only use the side with the brand-name written on it.
