(2) News...Mismatched?

These pictures are of two different news. My questions are: Which news are they? And, what's the deal with the difference on the two top plates? Notice the one on the left, the ridge that goes into the groove on the middle piece is the entire length of the head. On the one on the right, there is a big gap in the middle. I'm sure I'm not using the proper names for the pieces.

I know someone will know.

I can't speak specifically about the New, but I know that the Tech had both types of cap pieces, with the full bar and with the split bar.
I can see no reason why the New wouldn't as well.

I wonder if a gold split-bar tech head was substituted for the correct NEW head? Not that it means anything, but I've not seen a NEW with the split bar. (more than willing to be corrected)

That was my thought. Truth is, I'm not sure either, that's why I hesitated to post.

I've had a lot of NEW heads pass through my hands and I've seen the gaps on a few center bars.
There's also several different corner nibs styles on the caps, some of the short comb caps won't fit long comb base plates.
When I send a batch of head out for plating I nut the caps and base plates together, when they come back they're nutted together but they're often mixed up and I have to make sure the caps and base plate fit properly.
