1kg Cella

Im contemplating taking the plunge and buying a 1kg brick of cella. does anoone have any photos of this stuff in particular relation to the packaging. how sturdy is the box and what is the 1kg block of soap housed in?

I don't have any pictures but the box is nothing special, just thin cardboard, not corrugated. The soap itself is in a plastic bag. By the way, it's a really good soap.

1 kilo of this stuff sounds great! I don't know if ill ever buy it in bulk like that but it definitely has been beating out my other stuff for now. very nice indeed. I do notice it lathers a whole lot better with my boar brush though. I may just have to put it in a bigger container.

Yeah, how do you lather it up? Saw off a chunk and try to fit into your favorite bowl?

I've got a 100g hunk another member sold me off his block, and it works great. It's soft (think the consistency of modeling clay), so you could just squish it into a bowl without problem, though I just hold the chunk in my hand. I'm planning on stocking a kilo whenever it runs out (or I find a good price). Cella doesn't have preservatives, so I've heard of some guys freezing theirs for the long term, but if you can store it it'd be a great deal--less than half the price of, say, TOBS.

Sounds good...

Not to be contradictory or anything, but are you expecting a revolution where Cella supplies will vaporize? 1 kg sounds like a lot. Why not just the 100g or so of the stuff?...those last a long, long, loooong time.

Since I don't do rotations anymore, I use Cella exclusively. A kg lasts about 2 years. I'm on my second one and haven't had any storage problems.

I couldn't find a vendor that offered the splits. There's a couple but they always seem unavailable. 1kg would last me years.

Chimensch - is the red tub the same stuff as the brick? My tub is cookie dough sticky, I imagined the brick to be drier and firmer.

This question was asked yesterday. Here is my answer. Cella is available in two different versions: the 1 Kg block and the 150 g plastic bowl. Both types have listed exactly the same ingredients, as follows: Cocos Nucifera Oil, Tallow, Stearic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Aqua, Potassium Carbonate, Parfum. Anyhow I am convinced that these two products are not the same. I suppose it is a question of different proportions in the formulation because, in my opinion, the Kg block shaves better. That's the opinion of many experienced Italian wet shavers, too.

Thanks... that is good info. I wish I would have known this, as I just ordered the red bowl a few days ago. If I like it I suppose I will have to get a block. :p

I don't think you need to, actually. In my opinion the difference, if it is there at all, is caused more by user bias than by actual changes in performance. Shavers never conduct double blind trials, after all. (This would require assistance from the manufacturers too, by the way, as colour and scent give a product away very easily.)

Bottom line: The tub will give you an extremely good indication of what Cella is like. Try that first for a while, and then you can always decide to go for 'da block'.

It's exactly the same stuff.
