1959 Gold Flare Tip Presentation set

Here's what my wife found for me for last month's gift exchange -- a replacement to my earlier Gold Flare Tip set -- with the correct blades (E4 on the blades) and the presentation box. Never used & not going to get used by me --except in my display case.

A little stain on the shipper. But otherwise all is pristine & intact.

Made by those excellent British Gillette craftsmen. With skill that unfortunately got lost over the next several decades.

52+ years old and another example of "they don't make them like they used to."!

And Happy New Year 2013!

Very nice!! Where did she find it :D

She claims she had access to a time machine to find this beautiful set. I found her something in my version of a time machine too. And also from the late 1950s or early 1960s. But it was located at a vintage furniture dealer in Brooklyn!

Jake,

That's a great looking razor.. I am just curious to see what you think about the plating on NOS gold razors. The reason being is that I found a NOS gold Hoffritz slant and it seemed that the gold had oxidized from time. I touched the razor and the gold plating came off on my hand. I found a sheraton and the same thing.. Have you ever had this happen to you?

Truly the gold plating on most razors was so very thinly applied that it almost never holds up. This Flare tip set seems to be one of the exceptions. Some of the Milady sets have held up for me and there are a few others, but I agree that the gold looks old much more quickly than nickel, silver or rhodium plating.

Sorry if im intruding but on the OC Aristocrats, what was the gold plating like on them? Lasting till this day?
