I saw a Mid twentieth century Hi-Stainless DE Feather Razor Model 200-1 for sale. Try as I may, I cannot find out much about it and thought someone here might be familiar with the razor. Thanks for any insight.
More commonly known as the Feather Portable. Basically it was a travel Tech clone. Do they really go back as far as the 1950s? Possible, but I would not know how to establish a date for a piece. I do not know if the base material was brass or perhaps some grade of steel. The plating on mine appeared to be bright nickel or chrome.
These used to be readily available for about $10-20, and were considered moderately aggressive and a good deal for the money. There are reviews at http://badgerandblade.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=9940&title=feather-travel-de&cat=44. Except that they are discontinued, I do not understand why they command much of a price these days. Granted I sold mine before I got around to using it. But maybe there is some confusion with the modern Feather AS?
I had one that was new in box and sold it. it's basically a little travel tech, the finish was not that great and other then the novelty of it being a feather, it didn't do a whole lot for me.
i find the vintage Gillette ball ends and techs have a superior finish on them, smoother and not as many tiny, micro flaws as the feathers do.
they can still be had cheap on the BST every now and then, but they go fast.
