Trumper Violet

Item Description

This cream is one of the most popular things out there. Perhaps it is the allure of the Violet scent, which is pretty unique. For me, however, I don't get good shaves at all from this cream.

Price: Yeah, it is expensive, as all Trumpers products are.

Quality: High quality stuff; consistent texture, lots of effort in presentation, etc.

Scent: Personally I don't care for it. Too sickly sweet.

Latherability: Whips up gobs or rich lather in a hurry. Here it is from today's shave, after 4 passes:

Efficacy: I find this stuff doesn't shave well. Nowhere near the slickness of other creams, and has a propensity to dry out on the skin. Very disappointing in such a legendary cream.

Moisturizing: Doesn't do much for my face.

Packaging: Love the Trumpers packaging - classy and masculine.

So there you have it. If you like gobs of purple-tinged, sickly sweet lather that shaves adequately, plop down your money. I am sure you will anyway regardless of the review.

This is the firmest of all Trumpers shave cream I have tried to date and one can often make the mistake of loading your brush with too much of the cream. I feel it gets a raw deal with reviews. I found it to be super slick. The scent, assuming you like violets, can be overpowering, especially at the crack of dawn, if you dislike violets, then, well, stay away as it is one of those acquired tastes, it compliments your early morning cup of rose hip and chamomile tea!.
I found my skin to be moist and smooth after the shave and using an after shave balm I was overall, very happy with the experience. The only negative on this cream is its' colour. The violet is extremely purple and if you are using a silver tip or fine brush, you may tint your brush ends slightly.
Price-wise it will always be steep because Trumpers sell by the 200 gr pot as opposed to the 165 or 150 gr pots the opposition produces. This gives the impression that it always more expensive. My new pot cost me 15GBP back in the summer at their Jermyn street store.
Summing up, a luxurious shave with a thick, unctuous lather that easily allows for 3 or 4 passes with good moisturising properties, just watch out for the colour on your brush tips.
This has become my favorite SC (I often use w/ Lavender SS for uberlather).
