Proraso Aftershave Splash

I am looking for the traditional Proraso After Shave, and thought this might be it. Perhaps the word "splash" makes it different. I am new to this and not plugged into all the nuances and variations. Eskimos have 17 different words for "Snow" and it appears that DE shavers have many variations and nuances to their products. I am just looking for the basic traditional Proraso After Shave liquid (which I believe has a menthol scent). Could you please set me straight and tell me what words to use for the product I'm looking for and where to get the stuff? Thanks.
After trying Musgo, Spiek and Proraso I have come to love Proraso the most.
This has the balance the others lack. It's scent I love and don't find it medicinal at all, very old school but modern, fresh and clean. It has a wonderful cool feel that is followed by a sense of wellbeing. Finishing off a Proraso shave with this splash is nice way to end things.

I just received a bottle in a trade and I must say it is a decent aftershave splash but not my favorite. Let's begin:

Price: Mid-range (around $20 with shipping unless you live in Italy and can get in on the shelf)

Quality: decent, witch hazel is a plus

Razor Burn: quiets it nicely

Cooling: quite a dollop of menthol for a warm summer morning

Scent: decent, the usually mossy green scent available from Axe and Williams

Efficacy: gets the job done

Moisture: witch hazel tones the skin

Alcohol: less burn than most since the alcohol is on 55%
My favourite splash is AV Original Sport, which is $3.50 for 100 mL. This stuff is 10 bucks more for the same quantity. Worth it? No. This is my special-occasion splash.

A very nice all-round aftershave.

Price:
Hard to beat

Quality:
Excellent! This product does everything it promises - and it even comes in a classy old-school glass bottle

Fights Razor Burn:
For an alcohol based AS this one fights razor burn very well

Cooling Sensation:
A lot! Like a repeating splash of ice water

Scent:
Classic and discreet "barbershop" scent that doesn't linger. I like it a lot

Efficacy:
Quite! See comments under "Quality"

Moisturizing:
Very impressive for an alcohol based product!

No Alcohol Burn:
Some, but not bad. But I generally do not have a problem with alcohol burn

I seriously believe this aftershave should be standard in every shave den.

Regards.

Jakob

Price: Great price for a product this good!

Quality: A really nice splash that I find myself wanting to use frequently.

Fights Razor Burn: I haven't had a problem in this area...

Cooling Sensation: A very nice menthol kick, especially when used alongside other Proraso products.

Scent: I love the Proraso scent in all its forms!

Efficacy: It does what I want it to do!

Moisturizing: Not the most moisturizing, but it's best used on a warm day or when you want a break from the "heavier" products, so this isn't really a weak point to me--it's a positional soap that is every bit as important as its more moisturizing brethren.

No Alcohol Burn: No real alcohol burn here for me, only menthol!

For starters, let me state that my whole 15+ years of shaving, I've been a balm guy...so splashes are a bit new to me.

I've used this stuff for a whole week now and this stuff ROCKS! I was a bit intrepid about the alcohol burn, but its SOOO worth it. Great burn, great cooling sensation and AMAZING toner and razor burn eraser! Two thumbs up! I'm already thinking about the 400ml bottle for the summer...mine wont last!

1) Price: At $16-18 bucks, I listed it as an 8 as alot of stuff is cheaper (particularly some CVS and Walmart available balms)...plus availability means most will have to order it online, wait the lengthy wait for alcohol splashes...and pay shipping.

2) Quality: Since you are supposed to use an AS primarily for its skin healing properties (not scent), I did not include my thoughts on scent at all in this rating. This stuff rocks as a toner. Any redness or just regular blemishes are cleared up by using this over time. The Italians definitely got this one right...Mussolini not so much, but Proraso...YES!

3) Fights Razor Burn: I get great results when I've had a little bit of a rough shave and I use this. Originally, I thought the alcohol would aggravate my razor burn...but clearly the other products make up for any elevated aggravation. Extremely cooling sensation and minimized existing redness due to my poor technique.

4) Cooling Sensation: Having never tried Osage...this stuff has the most cooling sensation I've ever tried. Quite the menthol kick!

5) Scent: Best way to describe it is good, clean and Italian (I'm married to one...can't describe it). Not blow your socks off unique scent, like say TGQ Desert Ironwood...but just good and clean.

6) Efficacy: I've always loved this category. Most online dictionaries describe efficacy as "the power to be effective" or something similar. Thus, this category is about as subjective as it can get. Nevertheless, I believe the efficacy of this product is top notch for what I asked it to do...heal, tone, re-invigorate and GIVE ME THAT MORNING KICK IN THE PANTS THAT COFFEE CANT DO ANYMORE!!

7) I often thought alcohol based AS couldn't be as moisturizing as a balm. I was FLAT WRONG. This stuff makes my face feel better than some balms. Nuff said.

8) Alcohol Burn...definitely there. And thats why I like it!

Of course, I have to add another category....

9) Why does Scuba like it? BECAUSE IT BLOWS ME SOCKS OFF, KICKS ME IN THE ARSE AND TELLS ME ITS TIME TO WAKE UP OTHERWISE I'LL KICK YOUR....

Nuff said

I just got this one yesterday and I have used it two times so far. Its predecessors were Tabac Original and D.R. Harris Pink After Shave.

The Proraso AS Splash feels great on the skin, I really like the cooling effect after the shave. I wouldn't use proraso while shaving though, because the skin sensation is kind of benumbing, which makes it imho a bit harder to steer your razor through your face.

It's as mosturizing as the Pink AS but all in all it feels like it takes more care of my face, which should have been the Harris's strong point. It does not smell as good as the tabac, yet it ends up as the winner in this competition. The fragrance isn't really great, yet it is not too powerfull and does not last that long.

I never knew an alcohol based aftershave splash could be so cooling!

This is only my second alcohol based aftershave splash, the first being speick, and the Proraso is now my goto splash whenever I have any irritation, its amazingly cool and refreshing.

Its an alcohol based product, so its not terribly moisturizing (but then again, its not really supposed to be) and it does have a fairly sharp alcohol burn, it seems a bit harsher to me than the speick, but its worth it!

Overall, fantastic product.

Is there now a Bath and Body (C.O. Bigelow) version of this?

Thanks!!
This is the first Proraso product that I have bought and it won't be the last. I agree with most of what has been said previously, however I have marked low on price as I had to buy online at a cost of £9.99 plus £3.50 p&p. The scent is clean and pleasant, but is gone all too soon. I love the icy menthol blast and have used this product every day since it was received.

I love this stuff. A about $15 for the bottle is alot more expensive than Aqua Velva but alot less than some others out there. It has one of the best Menthol kicks I have experienced. The scent is not something I would wear like a cologne but it is a very nice clean sort of scent. I give this product very high marks and would recommend it as a mid level AS (price-wise). I comes in a very nice glass bottle and is another strong product in the Proraso line.

I discovered that product in my home town! It's a new shop who sells products to barbershop and hairdressers.
The cooling sensation is great like with other proraso products.
Scent in my opinion is not strong at all and doesn't last for long.
A very good product especially made for summer but if you want a cooling sensation to wake you up in the morning in winter, It's a good deal

This is a fantastic product and has become my go-to AS. I was particularly impressed with the scent for $12. A light woodsy citrusy sophisticated scent with out being overly complex. I actually marked the scent lower because it doesn't last a long as I would like. Cools your face just like the Proraso cream with minimal alcohol burn. I can't really judge on the moisturizing aspect because I have pretty neutral skin, but it seemed to keep my face healthy and reduced razor burn.
For me, this is the best. I've tried just about everything and this comes out on top because it works very well, good scent that doesn't linger or overpower, and moisturizes just the right amount for my slightly oily skin. Kills razor irritation as good as anything I've tried. I couldn't ask for a better combination. It's like a better smelling, better for your skin, better packaged, more efficient albeit higher priced Aqua Velva.

My only complaint is, it's not available locally, that I've found anyway. I wish Target carried this as well.

The splash works great. It has a very fresh soothing sensation. This is the least amount of razor burn I have ever experienced in A/S splash with alcohol.

The scent is very good but does not linger for too long.

A very good product overall..

Have a rough shave? Is it summer? This is the stuff then. I use this when I need it, and sometimes even when I don't (to prepare my face for my favorite smelling but stinging products), and it works like a charm. It's cheap cheap cheap, relatively speaking, lasts a long time, and just makes you feel nice and clean. Used in combination with green/red tube cream, pre/post, and liquid cream, this completes the proraso picture.
Even though the scent isn't nearly as medicinal as that of the pre/post, it bothers me more in this variation. Perhaps that's because the p/p works so damned well. Not to say that the splash doesn't, but it's only "okay" in my book. Yeah, it's nice enough, but I'd rather stick with the memorable Musgo or Harris splashes, or, for that matter, the Speick lotion.

Proraso is a classic purveyor of honest, hard working products. This one just doesn't shine as brightly as the others in their portfolio.
