Well, after all this time using one, I haven't broken the last two or three. Problem is they get eroded to the point of being not so effective for my uses .. underarm, shave check, finger adhesion . Today I realized mine is getting too small, when I checked the supply drawer I have plenty and the some ..

I have never really used an alum block after shaving. I just use an aftershave balm or splash but have been thinking of buying an alum block to try it out.

My question is don’t these alum blocks slip from your hand because they are wet? I have seen some alum blocks like Razorock that has a plastic handle to hold it. I do use a styptic pencils for cuts.
They do slip and break to pieces. Buy a crystal deodorant stick and you won’t have the slippage problem. Both are potassium alum.

Osma is the only way.
You will drop and shatter one at some point, but a bit like keeping your run going on Wordle, or completing the NYT crossword, make a game of how long you can go. I went an easy 5+ years, then, just like buses, broke two in a matter of months.
Alum is alum it doesn’t matter what brand the chemical makeup is 100 percent the same.

Here's my simple solution. I put a few wraps of 1/2" masking tape around one end.
I've used this block after every shave for well over a year with narry a mishap, in spite of my arthritic thumbs.
