Description:
Around mid-1906 the Gillette company modified their first razor design for the first time. The original design was what collectors now call the Double Ring, because of the two rings just below the collar on the handle. The 1906 design change reduced this to a single ring. This change was the first alteration made by Gillette to its razor design. It was done quietly and without publicity, presumably to reduce production costs. At the time, both designs were known simply as the Gillette Razor.
The serial numbers used by Gillette continued uninterrupted during this change. It is not known which serial number represents the first Single Ring (or the last Double Ring) to be produced.
