You're favorite blade for the Muhle R41

I recently got a Muhle R41 (2013) and its a joy to shave with, but I get some tugging on the dense growth on the chin below the lips. I've tried the Gillette Silver Blue (tugged a lot), and Astras (less tugging but its still noticeable). Any suggestions on which blade to try next?

My favorite DE blade is Gillette Blacks but I'm open to suggestions for this razor in particular.

I've used Bics, Gillette 7oclock green and black, Gillette silver blues, feather, and supermax platinums in my 2013 R41. So far I have settled on the Gillette 7oclock black as my all around favorite. I like the feathers as 2nd best. The issue with those, however, is that after shaving with them a few days in a row, it feels like I'm setting my face on fire.

I felt no difference between Gillette Black and Green, both from India, for me they are the best.

Very close shaving and VERY forgiving blades.

I think you'll get almost as many answers as there will be posts in this thread. You will likely have to try a half dozen blades yourself to find the best one. The 2013 R41 is my next purchase. Based on how it's described I won't need an extremely sharp blade, due to it's aggressiveness. Something reasonably sharp and smooth. For me it would be GSB's, Astra's, Voshkod, Israeli Personna, maybe Med Preps or Labs. Bic Chrome Platinum would be another good candidate. That is where I'd start.

Derby's for me... believe it or not :001_huh:

I've heard that this razor makes Derby a viable blade for a lot of people. I'll definitely give it a try.

I tried Gillette Black today and it was absolutely phenomenal. No tugging at all!

So I've almost exclusively shaved with the R41 for about 2 weeks now. Blades that work well are : Gillette Black, Feather, Astra, and Med Prep. I have revisited the Gillette Silver Blues, and they seems to tug less. Perhaps I'm getting the correct angle or taking quicker more deliberate strokes.

Also, Derby blades work great! It's the first razor that I've tried that makes Derby's shine.

Great news that you have found several blades that work well for you. I also like to read nice things about the R41. Still planning on purchasing one. I'm keeping my eye out on the BST, but I've missed a few. I want the 2013 version like you have.

Having a razor that works with a variety of blades is a glorious thing.
