Your "Nicest" Pen

So what's your "nicest" pen? I'm sure that means different things to different people. Maybe it's your most expensive pen, your best writer, or one you treasure for some other reason.

I'll admit that I'm still trying to make up my mind, but yesterday I was just thinking that my Olive Franklin-Christoph Model 02 may have what I consider to be the perfect nib. It's a medium nib that's on the fine side of most western medium nibs, and it provides a slight but pleasant bit of feedback during use. I really like that pen's simple design, lovely materials, and excellent balance, as well.

It's not my most expensive pen, and it doesn't have some crazy specialty nib. It's just a wonderful writer that happens to suit my tastes. And that's why I have to try all the fountain pens. You never know what your ideal nib/pen will be until you write with it.

I have a few pens that I really really like, but I would have to say my nicest pen is my Montblanc Proust

Cool subject. Since I am on a "substance" over "fancy" kick at the moment my Nicest pen is the one that works the best for me. For a while now I have been using my Parker 61 exclusively at home, and I can't fault it. It works like a champ, and writes like a dream. Sure, it is a bugger to flush, but I have found my "go to" ink for the time being as well, so that is not an issue.

Parker 61 FTW.

I really like my Lamy Safari, I may need to collect all the colours and inks to match. But I won a pif recently with a china 612 with a fine nib and I am liking that as well.

I don't think I own my nicest pen yet, but for my current line up it should be my Parker Vac Major, although Ive never written with it I hear it writers well but not yet great lol, and one day I should actually see it again so I guess that doesn't really count yet

So either my P51 or my Pilot custom heritage 92, If I had to pick between the two, well, uhhhh,... the Parker, Im going with the Parker

I like the Toledo as well, specially the vintage ones,... Sigh, that would be my favourite answer to this question one day

I have two pens that I treasure. One is a Parker 75 I inherited from my father. The other is a Schaeffer Connaisseur given to me by a good friend. I don't use the 75, but use the Schaeffer regularly. Do they write like dreams? Not expert enough to know, but I treasure them none the less.

I have two other Schaeffers that are my everyday carries because if I lose them I won't cry too much.

I have too many pens to call one of them my "nicest". If I was pressed to choose, I would probably go for my Parker Sonnet Cisele with a F nib. Not my most expensive pen, and also not the most fancy one. But it's my best all-round performer.

Definitely not the "nicest" pen in my collection but the pen that refuses to be taken out of the rotation is an Airmail 67T. The thing was dirt cheap but a few tweaks and a replaced nib has allowed the pen to write like a dream. It is an ED so it takes a ton of ink. Every time the ink level is low I think that I should just flush it and store it but the feed/nib is so smooth that I just top it off with more ink.

I guess my Waterman X-Pen. I love the way that it writes and it's a pretty rare pen. I also love how I can just drop it nib first into an ink bottle, wait 10 seconds and have a completely filled pen. No mess... no fuss. Furthermore, for some strange reason, I get almost a stub like line variation with it despite the fact that it's a normal fine nib.

That said, your average person would probably disagree with me. The cap has some rust to it, which makes it look cheaper than it is.

I'm realizing that "nicest" and "most prized" may or may not be the same thing, and it depends on how you choose to define "nicest" for yourself.

I'd say my most prized pen is my Parker 51 that's engraved with my grandmother's name. I know she used the pen, and she was around most of the time I was growing up. She was an incredible, influential person in my life, so if I could only grab one fountain pen on my out of a burning building, it would be that pen. My great grandmother's (also engraved) Parker Vac is a nicer pen, in the conventional sense, but I don't have the same sort of sentimental attachment to it.

My nicest pen to write with is the Model 02 I mentioned in the OP, and my most utilitarian, workaday pen is probably my Vanishing Point.

I suppose I should say my Namiki Falcon. It's the most expensive pen I own, and it is certainly beautiful. However, I can't bring myself to give it the nod after only 2 days. I have to go with my Kaweco Dia 2. I like the look of the silver trim on black every time I pick it up from my desk, and then I put the nib to paper and catch myself smiling while I write. That's nice.

Honestly, I can probably say that about all 6 of the pens I use at one point or another, but the Dia 2 is the most consistent smile-producer.

My nicest pen is both the most expensive pen I have and the best writer: Lamy 2000 medium nib. Its size and weight are perfect for me, and the nib is wonderful. The integrated filling system is a neat thing, too.
