Your First Shave?

Who here remembers their first shave? If you do, please do tell!

My first shave:
Merkur 180, generic boar brush, Proaso shave cream. It was a little shaky at first, but I soon got the hang of it(I had watched a lot of Mantics videos beforehand). It was the best shaving experience I had ever had up to that point:w00t:(before, I was using a five blade razor that I hated:angry:).

Just over a year ago.

Done on a Sunday night. Took about an hour.

Slim Adjustable set at 3,Wilkinson Sword ( Made in Brazil ) Blade, Men-u Pure Bristle Brush, Body Shop Macca Root Cream

Razor burn so bad used almost a small bottle of Aloe Vera gel to try and get to sleep :blushing:

For those of you with similar experiences it ( luckily ) does get better :001_smile

My first 'real' shave was in January of last year, with a Merkur HD, a Derby blade, e-Shave brush and TOBS cream. It was a scary experince and the shave was not great. It took me quite a few months to get the no pressure rule and blade angle worked out. Since then, I haven't looked back.

I'd been studying B&B since my wife gave my my straight (first anniversary) and had learned about SOTD, so I figured I'd immortalize it. Took a couple of weeks to acquire a strop, soaps, etc.

I waited until SWMBO had a closing shift and went to it. Forty-five minutes at the sink. My lather tended toward suds and I missed a couple of spots, but where I got it, whoa man was it nice.

EDIT: That's TGQ Desert Ironwood and a brush SWMBO's great-aunt gave me as a wedding present.

It was July 2009:

Feather Portable (DE Razor)
Dorco blade
VDH Boar Brush
CO Bigelow shave cream
Thayers Super Hazel

First shave was awesome, comfortable, 2 passes and pretty close shave :w00t:

Second shave was a total disaster, same setup but I was cocky that this whole DE shaving thing was no big deal. thought I had it down easy. I gave myself the worst razor burn I have ever had in my life. My chin was fire engine red for a good 12 hours, I had a lunch meeting with my boss and I felt like a complete idiot. Blamed it on an old mach 3 cartridge that must be going bad :lol:

First shave

EJ Loxley DE w/Derby

SC- Penhaligons BB
Brush- EJ SBB

it was a nice experiance but yes I did get bad razor burn. Now no razor burns and some of the best shave I've ever had.

Last October for me - the price of cartridges was getting me down, and a few posters on a rugby forum were forever bragging up their Merkurs so I thought I'd give it a try. I didn't want to spend a lot on something I didn't carry on with so I bought my supplies from the local branch of Boots.

Wilkinson Sword Classic / Wilkinson Sword blade
Men-U brush
Boots Freshwood soap in a bowl

I already had a few things.

Boots styptic pencil
King of Shaves pre-shave oil
Avon Wilderness aftershave (my family have been buying me this for years, and I have cases of the stuff).

Not a bad shave, not brilliant either though. One nick and quite a few weepers on my throat, but I persevered.

My first shave (probably 10 yrs old)

Saw my dad shave once and I figured I would sneak in and give it a shot as well. I took a dry injector razor and did a pass on my face. I was left with my hole face bleeding. red, bumps everywhere. I later blamed it on our cat scratching my face up.

I was hooked ever since. :lol:

Mine was a Merkur Progress, Derby Extra blade, Proraso shaving cream, and Mandom! aftershave.

It happened today and it was wonderful.

My first "real" wet shave was about 14 years ago.
I remember that day perfectly.
With the help of an old Master Barber, with over 40 years of experience, I had my first shave.
Here are the shaving tools I used:

Pre-shave: Proraso green pre-post cream;
Shaving cream: Proraso green;
Brush: Omega boar brush;
Razor: An old Gillette razor;
Blade: Wilkinson Sword Classic;
Aftershave: Proraso splash.

It was an amazing experience.
From that day I've become a wet shaver.:001_smile:wink2:

My first shave:

Razor: Merkur 34C
Razor blade: Merkur
Shaving brush: VDH boar
Shaving soap: William's

I am not sure if I used anything else.

My first wet shave was with a black handle super adjustable gillete, a bar of Col Conks almond soap, col conks badger brush, walmart personna blades, and for aftershave, it was neutragena(sp?) aftershave balm. It was a pretty good shave save for a weeper or two.
