Nice try. I shall NOT be tempted to buy a straight razor. Nope.
My old stand by combo is a Feather blades and a 1904 razor. Magic for me. I have thick whiskers and very dense it some areas. I need something very sharp or else the blade can skip on me.

I would place my beard growth as medium with fine to medium type hair. My two favorites are a '40s Superspeed with a Derby or Iridium (although Sharks work well here as well) or a New with an Iridium. I have several more expensive razors that I wish I liked more than these (it would make it easier to justify the extra expense of the Diplomat, Rocket or Slim), but nothing has improved on the less expensive SS or New. (I did just pick up a Tuckaway which is supposed to be fairly aggressive, so I'll see how that does).

Hmmm I had a Tuckaway on my watchlist. $15 plus shipping. I'd be very interested in finding out how you like the Tuckaway.
Medium beard- I use a Slim Adjustable on the 7 setting with an Iridium Super or Red Personna.

I still have to try Iridiums.
Medium beard. 1912 Gem Damaskeene with a Treet carbon steel blade.
My favorite blade is Feather. My favorite razor is Stahly. Close second is Tech (I have a 60's German and a 70's Mexican, no significant difference).
I have never been able to notice a difference in blade performance in different razors. Feather is great in all. Derby is good in all. Merkur is... well, you know.

I have a medium beard in terms of heaviness and my whiskers are very coarse and lay close to the skin as opposed to being pointy.
Favorite razor/blade combination so far is the Merkur Slant with Personna (Red Pack) and Slim with Astra SP.
