What's new

You sold that? But why?

I got a new "game". It's fairly simple. Name that wetshaving item that you sold or gave away and explain why. The most common answer would probably be, don't like the scent. But what if, it was something else.

Let me start. I gave away the leftover of a bottle of Mandom aftershave so someone could enjoy it as much as me!

I had a Mergress that I had custom made with green dots. I sold it because I wandered into an new more expensive hobby and I wanted the funds. Of course it was a spontaneous decision that I now slightly regret but if the razor is making someone else happy then I'm okay with that.

Sold Tabac puck because i hated the smell

Sold TWO of my really nice condition Gillette '30's NEW Open Combs...wait, why the #@#$% did I do that?

Gave away 2 Cadet razors as PIF's in the Gentlemanly Restraint until Christmas thread to promote staying in and because I had too many razors at the time.

Oh wait, I still have too many...

I had a really good condition 40's Super Speed that I picked up cheap on ebay. Sold, as I rarely used it, and regretted the sale immediately. Figuring I should have at least one TTO in my modest collection I lucked into a Ranger Tech in excellent condition that somehow escaped attention on the 'bay.

Alls well that ends well.

I got rid of the stock handle to the R41 just because I didn't like it and thought it was too light. Got an Ikon bulldog to replace it. Now there's a handle.

I supplied my brother (who had been complaining too much about the high cost of cartridges) with a puck of VdH soap, a razor which had belonged to our father, and several different types of razor blades. Plus Michael Ham's book on "Gourmet Shaving". He already had a brush.

the one I got asked most about...I sold off my BRW Bull Progress Deluxe 2 Tone

I traded it, as it was not being used enough. I got a couple items I use regularly and the new owner is happy. Win Win.

I sold 600 original Iridium Supers about a month before they stopped making them. &*#$@!!!!

They weren't working for me, but I don't think I gave them a fair chance.

Anyway, there are plenty of nice blades coming out of St. Petersburg and elsewhere.

The "sledgehammer." It just wasn't for me (use a Futur instead). Glad it went to someone who would appreciate it more.

I gave a Stoll Single Edge Safety Razor to a B&Ber mainly as a thank you for lending me some injectors to try out. It didn't really agree with me and was just sitting around plus I wanted to give this gentleman something in return for shipping those razors to me. He said he likes the razor, I felt better about borrowing his. As someone said earlier, a win/win.

I gave away a Feather all stainless on another forum because it was waaaay too mild. I wanted to like it because it was a nice looking razor, but after giving it three separate chances, it had to go.

I traded away my first Fatboy. Regretted within about a week. Fortunately I found another one and it is still in my rotation.

My relatives have heard that I'm into this old timey shaving thing, but they continue to ignore my declarations that there's only like 1-3 brands in each category that I will use, and they keep buying me Col Conk stuff. I gave one puck to a friend as part of a starter kit, and I have another puck and a bottle of aftershave that I'll be returning to the shop this week.

I PIF'ed a Feather "Popular" TTO last summer because it was too mild for me. It reached the point that I was driving myself nuts trying to shave with it. (I replaced it with a EJDE89 which I'm much happier with)

I also PIF'ed the last of my Gillette Sensor cartridges, since I didn't have the handle for them any more.

I gave away
- A 100 Crystal Blades because I discovered Astras
- 2 barber size Proraso shaving cream tubes because I discovered shaving soaps
- GFT Lime Skin Food. One product that I just never liked.

I once bought a NOS Gillette black handle Super Speed in the package on ebay because I thought it might be my birthyear/quarter razor (just a wild stab). Turned out to be 7 years older than me when I got it and checked out the date code. I didn't know what to do with it so I just kept it for a couple months until another B&B member posted a WTB for a razor for that year 1969 because 1) he liked the grip on the black handle better than any other Super Speed 2) he wanted the lower profile head of the 60's style Super Speeds but 3) did not want the head re-design of all the black handle Super Speeds from the 70's. I sold it to him and thought to myself, "only on B&B would someone have such a particular taste in a razor and it seem completely normal to me". We are definitely a unique breed around here.
