Yet more deep thoughts whilst shaving

Opinion time. As I was shaving tonight with the VDH soap. I found myself having to reload my brush every pass even after plenty of a load on the first pass. In it occurred to me on the third pass. That I was unwittingly trying to build a lather each pass. When realistically, in my honest opinion. After you build that lather on your face, after the first pass, you really only have to paint it on as you've already exfoliated your face and worked the soap into your skin and got some of the slickness going. Just one of the things I pondered while shaving today. Mingle! Discuss! GO!

I must admit, you lost me on this one. Whether or not you paint or build is one thing. How much lather is left in the brush after applying for the first pass is another, I think.

Perhaps you can explain a bit more. Do you face lather or mix a lather in a bowl?

I'm face lathering, but rather than just applying the lather each pass, I caught myself almost trying to build a lather with the circular motions each pass, rather than just applying it to the skin. Do you work it into your skin each time or do you just "paint it on" I've seen both theories.

I also face lather. For the first pass I have to build the lather on my face. For the subsequent passes, while the lather is mostly already built, I still do a fair bit of circular brushing and re-building. Often, right after building my first pass lather, I I give the brush another few quick swirls on the puck. (This depends on what soap/croap I am using.) But obviously if I do that, I have to build a bit again for the second pass. While I could simply just paint after that, I like facerbating too much, so I do a bit of brush massaging before each pass.

I actually get what the OP is saying. I face lather and my experience is same. I lather, build, scrub, etc before that first pass. Then I essentially paint on a thin layer of lather before successive passes. Not much swirling/working just a quick once over painting.

Well, ******* of the year award goes to me. Not enough water in the brush or and puck while building, although I basically ended up puck lathering. But now that I have it down I can load less and do more of a face lather. Although my chops are on fire as I lathered on my freshly shaven face about eight times. I'm on fire gents!

My problem was I wasn't getting much lather and was wondering how people kept on during their passes. but now that I've got it figured out I can refine it to more of a face lather. sorry for the scatter brained post, I warned you guys in my hall of fame entry that I am ha. But I suppose the thread still stands on what people prefer.

I think it's mine. I was having great shaves and then all of a sudden I put in a new blade and got chopped up. I kept trying to think of what the problem was and that night right after I got in bed it hit me. I went to my razor and it was true, I forgot to remove the wax spots and it threw the blade angle off. Doh. The next day i removed the wax and got a great shave with the same blade.

I think it's mine.

Think again my friend. This morning while loading a fresh injector blade in my Schick Injector I somehow managed to reject the old blade and fail to inject a new one. After the first stroke of the razor I remarked to myself, "Golly, I have made the most slick and cushiony lather in the universe."

I did something similar a few months ago. I'm in the shower and begin shaving and think "This is one incredibly smooth shave." Then I notice I'm not really cutting anything and i think, "Did I forget to load a blade?" Nope I had just loaded a new blade. So I look again---I had the base plate on upside down.

I knew I wasn't alone.

This made me

It depends on the day for me. Sometimes I face lather and sometimes I bowl lather. When I do face lather I kind of build soap on my face each pass, just have plenty of time to work the wiskers, works for me
