Yesterday's equipment:
Merkur 23c
Omega menthol & eucalyptus
Omega boar
walmart personna (2nd use)
witch hazel
neutrogena balm
Yesterday, I had near BBS results for the first time since I've began wetshaving, except for on my neck. I am prone to irritation there and don't attempt to get too close there... just presentable.
The results were surprising because I had purchased the walmart personnas on a whim, knowing that the red pack personnas aren't really sharp enough for my liking. The walmarts are very similar from what I've heard. My beard is sort of tough and I prefer a sharper blade, but I couldn't resist trying the locally available walmart versions. I normally get three shaves out of a Lord blade without problems, and this was the second shave with this particular blade.
It was also my first shave with a shaving soap other than VDH. I can lather both VDH and Omega like a champ, as it turns out.
Today:
Merkur 23c
Real Shaving Co. Cream
Omega boar
walmart personna (3rd use)
witch hazel
neutrogena balm
Well, not much went right today. I used the cream on a whim, but it really didn't lather well at all. I had barely enough for two passes, and it takes three to reduce my beard under normal circumstances.
The walmart personna was done for. It was barely cutting anything. Ordinarily I wouldn't change blades between passes, but shaving with this blade was just pointless. Now I know that the walmart personnas are good for two shaves (for me anyway.)
So, I made the two passes that I had enough lather for and it doesn't feel nearly as good as it usually does. It kind of 'interrupted my flow' when I had to change the blade too, if that makes any sense. I look presentable I suppose, but I can definitely tell the difference. I can't wait to redeem myself tomorrow!
