Yellowing on (or is it in? clear acrylic?

I just got a nice Made Rite "52" with a square clear acrylic handle. Looks unused. But the acrylic has a bit of yellowing. If this handle was crystal clear, it would look especially nice.

Is this something that can be buffed off the surface? Or does acrylic (lucite?) just turn yellow throughout?

Clean it with soap and water and see if the yellowing comes off. Yes, you can sand and polish acrylic. What grit sandpaper you use depends on the exterior condition. So, if washing the handle doesn't remove the yellowish tint, I would sand a small area using a high grit, wet/dry sandpaper - 1000, 1500 or 2000 and then polish the sanded area to see how it turns out.
