Yardley

Hi,

I only recall the Lavender. But, it has been a long time since there was any to be had. Last I saw of it was when the last Rexall closed. Late 70s.

Which brings up the question for anyone that has used vintage Yardley lately: does anyone have a source of something current that is like the old Yardley?

I have used Lavender and Oatmeal & Almond. I've seen Aloe & Cucumber, Lemon Verbena, Honeysuckle Citrus and Pomegranate Rose, but that is in the States, don't know about Canada. The Lavender is quite good, the Oatmeal and Almond is divine, smells like Cella :001_wub:

I think the OP was talking about shaving soaps. The scents you've mentioned are all from the bath bars. I don't recall the soaps being in any other scent other than lavender, although if I recall correctly, there is something unique about the black-label soap that has maybe a cologne scent to it. I think I remember Rudy Vey preferring the black-label stuff but I don't remember why.

I have 6 Yardleys (4 of which are in different style containers. Only one of them is sealed in the plastic wrap and my guess the lavender scent will be very faint. None of my yardleys have scent so even if they were made in different scents, I doubt you'd find one fully scented.

That'll teach me to read! I thought with only 1 reply in 3 days it had to be about the bath bars. My bad!

It's hard to say what current production soaps are similar to Yardley, especially with regards to performance. I haven't gotten into any of the artisan soaps other than RR so can't speak to those, but as far as performance, I put Yardley above anything else (haven't tried but own tallow trumper and tallow penhaligons). If I can accurately describe Yardley's performance I'd put it between a cross of MdC and P160 (great slickness, moisturizing, great protection, and excellent latherability).

I have several unused Yardleys, the tortoise shell Yardley shaving soap is fragranced so I would imagine it is from the Yardley Original range of products. There is an identical Black Label version too....

Hi,

I want my Yardley back! I guess I have to cough up 80 bucks a bowl for it. Instead of paying for razors, I will be paying for soap. SADly.

Although Yardley had several incarnations of their shave soap over the years, the scent was predominantly lavender. The soap was simply labeled Yardley Shave Soap, and at various times had a gold, green or black label on the bowl. The soap vaguely matched their Yardley English Lavender Cologne, and the later Yardley Black Label that replaced the men's version of Yardley English Lavender. Frank Sinatra is well know to have worn YEL then later YBL.
