What's new

Wow! Just had a half-bowl of Dunhill's MyMixture 965 ... THAT'S what I remember!

I posted a few days ago that I was taking up the pipe again after a 25+ year hiatus. While at Iwan Ries in Chicago I got a buy 3 get the 4th free set of Dunhill tins, DeLuxe Navy Rolls, Royal Yacht, MyMixture 965, and Standard Mixture Mellow.

I had the Navy Rolls right away. Nice, but not a sublime experience. I had the Royal Yacht next. Same. I mentioned I used to smoke IRC Royal in college, a really heavy, but somewhat sweet English mixture. I don't know why I did not get some.

I was going to have the Standard Mixture Mellow next, kinda working my way up, but tonight after dinner, I loaded a half bowl of the 965. THAT'S what I remember! Very nice, full and round flavor to it. I smoked it in a MM Country Gentleman waiting for a couple of old briars to arrive. Good stuff, and what I remember liking about pipes those many years ago.

It did get a little hot toward the end, nothing too hot to handle, and it does get a little strong toward the end, but a very nice smoke! I have a bunch of lighter stuff in the mail, but I really liked this 965. I am going to really enjoy this! :drool:

============

Been looking at Tobaccoreviews.com Looks like the IRC "Gourmet English" is on the shopping list for this weekend's trip to Iwan Ries.

Big fan of 965. I have four bail top jars of tobacco on my desk, 965 lives in one of them. During the Dunhill drought it sat empty and waiting.

It is great when you find "the one". For me (so far) it is Squadron Leader. I enjoy others, but I think it is going to take something very special to knock SL off the mountain.

Oh, I have no doubt this is not 'The One', Owen. If I remember anything about my college smoking days it's that I'll try dozens over the next year or two and there will be about 3 "The Ones", if that makes sense. I'm not about to get married this early in my return to the pipe, I'm still going to sow my wild oats, as it were. :wink2:

That one resides in bail top jar #2 :thumbup:
Where did you find those, James? I think they would be more suitable for everyday use. Mason jars are great, but you are only going to take the lids off a few times before the lids need replacing, which of course is okay for cellaring

I got mine at either my grocery or mega-lo-mart type store years ago. If you can't find them locally, specialty bottle caries them.
