What's new

wouldnt it be great if.......

all these great products like safety razors, brushes, and traditional creams and aftershaves were available at a local store rather then having to order it online and waiting which feels like forever for it to arrive

I prefer picking things online and having them show up at my doorstep.

I don't think I dislike people, but I dislike traffic and paying for fuel and the higher prices brick and mortar stores have to charge for overhead.

If I have to go to a store to buy it then there's a 90% chance I'll have to wade through a sea of ignorant goofballs in their pajamas pushing a shopping cart down the middle of an aisle and hovering in front of what I want to buy without any regard to the other people around them. The I have to stand in line behind someone who will probably ask for a price check and then pull out a checkbook to pay for one pack of gum. If I make it out with my sanity, I'll have to drive home behind either someone who is going 15mph below the speed limit with their left blinker on, or dodge someone racing 25mph over the speed limit with tires and rims that cost more than their house playing music loud enough to make my eyeballs jiggle.

Then there is always the joy of getting home and finding out the stuff I bought has an RFID tag behind the price tag and that my entire medicine cabinet is reporting my buying habits and product preferences to personalize the pop ups I see the next time I log into the internet.

I like to buy stuff online on then have a tag left on my door that says, "we tried to deliver this when you weren't home- we'll try again tomorrow when you're not home."
Or even better, having the package left on my porch in the blazing sun during a searing heat wave so when I do get home and open it I can pour everything out like melted wax..

Six of one, half dozen of the other I suppose..

I prefer picking up myself although i haven't really seen any shaving stores where i live, in this day and age internet shopping is the thing for most people.

I like to do both! I have a Merz apothecary near my job which I like to stop at every so often. Its nice to smell stuff and try some samples. However, I do a lot of business with our vendors and on ebay, amazon, etc. I guess I am just lucky to have the best of both worlds.

I suppose I would feel differently if living near a few stores meant that I could sample products before buying a full container. I know you can order samples, but I am thinking more along the lines of samples at make-up/cologne counters, bath and body, or similar.

I prefer buying online and searching new sites out. Perhaps I'm a bit cynical, but if we had something nearby, it would only be a matter of time before a box mart took them down, or they are acquired by a big conglomerate. Playing in cyber space, gives vendors a better chance to play the game, and I'm more than happy to give them my business.

I love threads like this. They remind me of all the guys who make fun of NYC.

Most of the time I prefer to purchase things in store because I'm impatient and dislike waiting on something to arrive. So, yes, it would be nice to have something close by that offers the type of shaving products (or any products for that matter) that I like even if it is a bit more expensive. Also, I work out of town most of the time and my days vary. I work Monday - Thursday regularly. But, from time to time I may work Friday or even through Sunday unexpectedly. I have to try and be as accurate as possible on delivery date, otherwise I may have to wait another whole week to get my package, even after it has arrived. I go home most weekends, so I have to try and figure the delivery date the best I can in order to know where to have the package sent. It can be frustrating.

You live in Baltimore too??? ;)

There are two stores about 15-20 miles away from where I live. They have an alright selection, but their markup is entirely outside of reason.

Ah..... Wal-martians.

We have some wonderful post modern suppliers of shaving supplies. I wouldn't trade them for the ability to get what I need at a local big box store.

I'm with Gom. Yes, you get good prices online, but walking through the store and being able to SMELL a new AS or get a sample of something is a better experience. I'd love to take my girlfriend to a place and have her tell me what scent turns her on.
