Hey all. All things being equal for razors, I'm looking for the worst combination of soaps and blades. What do you consider to be the worst? (I'd like to try them out. For fun/research??)
gillette rubie platinum + swedish dream sea salt soap. ( I may have just not hit the right water mixture with this soap, I am not brave enough to try again )
I have a feeling that Derby is going to be mentioned quite often in this thread. I personally think they are perfectly capable of giving someone a damn fine shave, but as always YMMV.
Valobra Menthol & Feather Blade. I don't have any problems with the Feather Blade. Valobra Menthol just doesn't offer enough protection for a comfortable shave. Compound that with one of the fiercest blades made. It will tear your face apart if you're not careful.
I also think this is a bit of a pseudo-scientific thing, however I had my worst shave ever with Vergulde Hand soap lather and a Polsilver blade on it's second shave. The blade almost seemed to jump on my face on the passes.
About any olive-oil based artisanal shaving soap combined with either a Derby, a Dorco ST-301, a Sharp or a 7A.M. (not a 7 O'clock) blade will do fine.
It really is YMMV.
My personal favorite combo is Williams Mug Soap and Derby Blades - two things that I'm sure will get lots of votes on this thread. So far though, I haven't found a blade or soap I didn't like. At first I disliked Feathers, but when my technique improved, I began to like the feather more.
