Hello all. My name is Ed and I'm an African American male and my question is this. I've noticed the other day looking in the mirror that the area I shave( face, neck and chin) have turned darker as a result from shaving is this normal or should I stop shaving for a little while? What would stop this darkening from happening and how can I reverse it?

Darker?.. sounds like skin pigment change.. I'm sure every 10 years we all change somewhat visually... best to see a dermatologist... best of luck Ed!

Is it a 5 o'clock shadow? lol

JK buddy, I cant say I have noticed that my skin has darkened due to shaving....

I haven't heard of anyone else having that problem.
As mentioned by others the advice of a dermatologist would be best.
In person of course.

hey Ed!

got another vote to ask a dermatologist here!

Melanin *can* be highly reactive - afew years back a buddy of mine had a similar reaction to anti-biotics but it was blotchy over most of his body - so if it's just happening in areas where you shave it *may* be something in one of the products you are using causing said reaction? Similar to an allergy - again, only a qualified dermatologist can really help, test, diagnose

best of luck with it!

First guess - you're just paying more attention to your face these days and noticing small differences that you didn't before.
Second guess - DE shaving cuts hairs off square and right at the surface of the skin, versus raggedy uneven cuts from cartridges. It'll look darker because all the hairs are oriented the same way.

Either way, it's not a bad thing, it's just the way your skin is.

I have found that areas of my body that are subject to constant rubbing, like the tops of my toes in my work boots, the top of my hand that rubs on the crown of my watch, etc. turn darker. Not sure about your situation, but that is mine :).
