Wonderful Wilkinsons!

Wow. I've been using feathers for quite a while and not touching my big stash of blades in a big blade sampler.

I tried a wilkinson in silver packaging for the first time several days ago. I am very impressed. I have a tough beard and sensitive skin, and even get irritation sometimes with my straight. After 3 days without a shave, it did great, and the same result the next 2 shaves.

Feathers have a reputation for being the sharpest blades on the market - Wilkinson shaved as though it were just as sharp without feeling like a sharpened shell.

This is what I've realized - sharp doesn't mean unpleasant. For me, Wilkinson > Feather. Let's just hope they are as consistently smooth as Feathers were sharp.

I don't find the Wilkinson's to be bad at all. However, I find them to be a little temperamental about the razor they are in. They just seem to shave a little better in some razors over others. To satisfy my curiosity, what razor did you use?

Ack! I meant to include that I'm using a 78 Gilette SuperSpeed.

The writing of the word Wilkinson is black, the blade wraps are black, and the number 5 is gold.

I mentioned the color because I've heard about wilkinsons from different countries having different quality.

Happy shaves :)

I was using some old English Wilkinsons, white wrapper with black writing. Felt like it was rough going, but left a nice smooth shave with little irritation behind, but was quite weepy.

Hmm. That description reminds me of how I would describe CVS blades.
These blades did have white wrappers with black writing.

Have you ever heard of "stropping" DE blades on your palm?

I was wondering about the German Wilkinsons. I was in a grocery store today and they had Wilkinson DE blades and the back of the package said Made in Germany. Which blades would be comparable? Even though I can't remember the price, I do remember them being rather expensive...

Stay away from that store!!
Wal-Mart now has German Wilkinsons for less than two bucks for a package of ten.
I love them and compare them to Gillette Super Thins and Red Personna :thumbup1:

I should have known they were too much since everything else in that store is expensive! Thanks for the review and I'll check Wally World for the German Wilkies.. :thumbup1:

OOOoooohhh. They're available for that little? :w00t: Very nice! Maybe I'll pick up some more and PIF the feathers I have!

No, but I've heard of people corking them or running them through styrofoam...

Same idea. You can strop them by .... Well, the best idea is to watch the youtube video on it. You strop them like a straight using the thick skin on your palm, below your pinky.
I'd suggest watching the video, it's difficult to explain with words, and I don't want to tell you to slice yourself.

All that method is trying to do is smooth out - straighten the blade contact edge.

I really like these as well. I find they do better on the 2nd and 3rd shave than the first for some reason though.

Walmart sells German made Wilkinsons for $1.79 a 10 pack. Great blades, locally available, awesome price.

Wow. That is a good price. Unfortunately Wal-Mart.com doesn't list these so it must be a store-only item.

Reading about these I'm sorely tempted to place an order for a 5-pack but I will hold off on that until I've checked my local WM.

I just bought a pack of them at Wally World this evening. Showered, then shaved with one in my Merkur 1904. Lathered with C.O. Bigelow shaving cream and an Omega pure badger. I did 2 passes and a touch up on problem areas. BBS all over. These blades are good. And I like the price. These will have a place in my shave den.

I am on my second week of Wilkinson Sword blades and love them :thumbup1:
Wal-Mart has really stepped up by carrying these blades.
