Women and DE shaving

As I'm just starting my love for the joy of using my DE razor to shave, I find I want to try and convert everybody. Including my wife! She loves the shave I get so I'm just wondering how many women out there actually use a DE razor to shave and what they use. She doesn't have so much trouble with her legs but under her arms she can get some irritation. My noobie knowledge is very limited so I'm trying to see if it's worth trying to convert her too. Thanks.

My fiance hated her experience with a DE, but loves the Gem Featherweight SE she tried when I was on a SE bender. I recommend letting her try both. As an added bonus, SE razors are cheap.

thanks for the input. As I am just getting into it and only have one razor myself, a DE, I was thinking of seeing if my wife wanted to try it out to see if she actually likes it and if it makes a difference. Also, what does your fiance use for cream? Just generic canned stuff or has she switched over to a good cream or soap?

There's so many guys on here and we all (new and experienced) love the way we shave I think it's easy to forget women have their shaving problems as well.

I've been slowly working my wife into DE shaving...via me shaving her various parts. She always says it feels like there is no blade, and has been impressed so far. Granted this has only happened a couple of times, but I'm nudging her to try it for herself..plus it helps ease the bitching regarding my ADs if I can say "but honey I bought this one for you to use!":lol::lol:

I swapped from disposables to DE's in January and have never even been tempted into looking back. At the moment I use my husband's Merkur 11c, with whatever spare blades happen to be lying about, and it works great. The thing that sold me on trying it in the first place was that DE's don't clog, at least not in the incredibly irritating way that disposables do, and the closer shaves, less irritation, etc just sealed the deal. I do suggest getting her some decent soap or cream, even if it takes a while to get her to try a DE; that canned crap is overpriced and worthless and a lot of women I know find it irritates their skin. Using good lathering agents and some nice witch hazel with aloe for afters has done wonders for my skin; I don't really get razor burn anymore. I hope it'll work the same way for your wife; underarm irritation is a real bugger.

I picked up my wife a birth year black handle SS on the BST and a tub of Trumper's Almond, going to also pick up an Omega brush from the drug store for her. She shaved with my SS and found it was nice, it's the saving money on blades that is going to be doing it for her.

My wife started on the sly with one of my tech and my 3/1 Rooney... she still uses the tech.. although a super adjustable and a knack have also seen use.... she has her own bowl of G Best and a large brush as well.. I just hope she quits eying my straights

Also, what does your fiance use for cream? Just generic canned stuff or has she switched over to a good cream or soap?

She uses Cyril R. Salter cream in Sublime Citrus to shave and TSD ASMilk in Mojito afterwards. Both are great products, she actually took the cream from me after I said I didn't like the scent because she loves it.

Great feedback everyone. Nice to get a woman's viewpoint on it too. Thanks again to everyone so far and to any who decide to wander in later.

My g/f tried the DE route but didn't stick with it. She did however switch to nice soaps and creams when I am around to "make her some lather" - she asks so sweetly - I can't resist.

When I am not around she uses Cremo so she doesn't have to mess with a brush.

I've managed to convert SWMBO not too long ago and she picked it up fairly quick. She was scared at first, but now that she's getting the hang of it she's starting to see its benefits. She uses my Personna reds and a blue star lady gillette which I bought for her, and kiss my face shaving cream. I gave her an old Muehle brush in best to use but so far she hasn't gave it a go. She even picked up a couple of razors for my birthday that's coming up, though she only did this because I recently parted ways with several razors.

My girlfriend was curious because she knows I swear by DE shaving, but I wouldn't let her use my razor. It's kind of like a tooth brush, I don't want anyone using my equipment.

And i think i used the perfect excuse not to make her feel bad. I said if you're happy with what you have, why rock the boat? And personally whatever she's using on her legs is fine anyway cause they are smoooooth. I considered asking her what she's doing.

Well just recently I asked her to shave my sports lines with my DE and she grudgingly agreed. She saw the lather mountain in the brush and asked me to try a little on her legs. She asked what is this stuff? Lather... From water and shaving soap. Oh, I like it. Me being all non-chalant. OK took the DE and did a couple test patch shaves. SWMBO liked the results and now wants me to do the entire legs sometime. She likes Trumper Rose and DR Harris Pink. I've been waiting 2 years for this. Woot!
