Woman's Fragrances

Well looking for a gift for SWMBO and thought i'd search for ideas early... i was curious as to the appropriateness of a perfume for a gift, she's gotten me colognes so it'd be like returning the favor, and if so then what our some good, not mainstream fragrances that you know of? thanks!

well like i prefer more femine scents on women haha it wouldnt be for both of us, just a gift for her,

My wife has been using Vera Wang since our wedding. It's shaped like a wedding dress. It smells amazing and the bottle looks nice and lasts for a long time (2nd bottle in 5 years). I wouldn't call it a mass market but check out http://www.shoplondons.com/ it has nice selection like Floris which is nice but a little pricey.

I bought my wife a bottle of Floris Cefiro. It is a really nice scent. I was going to buy her abottle of C&E India Hicks Island Night, but all they had was the sample bottle. Why even have a sample to test out if you are not going to sell the perfume? It was a much better perfume than the Cefiro, but it just wasnt available. I would highly recommend either one.

Women are too fussy when it comes to fragrances. They can't use what another woman at work is wearing, it mustn't clash with their deodorant, it has to suit their "outfit", etc. You'd be safer just buying her a gift voucher for a massage!

In doing virtually the same thing, I included my wife in this by asking her about which scents she might prefer. The consulted with people on Basenotes. Then ordered some samples from The Perfumed Court. Also visited department stores that carried finer lines. A possibility?

Quite possibly the nicest smelling perfume my wife wears is Creed's Love In White. That stuff smells amazing and it lasts all day long. I can still smell it on her after she comes home from a long day at work.

I think this can be done tastefully, especially if she started gifting fragrances before you. Otherwise, I do consider it a pretty personal thing, but I think she will appreciate the romantic gesture, since she obviously doesn't find it too personal to have gifted to you. (Unless she's just a total control freak!... Then - good luck!)

So, all that being said -

My next girlfriend, whomever she may be, will be presented with:

Penhaligons - Ellenesia (beyond words, imo), Lily of the Valley (very soft and clean and beautiful -might be a good gift/blindbuy), Bluebell (powdery and floral), or Lily and Spice (perfect rendition of lilies)

Creed - Love in White ("wedding day"), Love in Black ("wedding night"), Fleurs d' Rose Bulgarie (perfect clean, pretty, rose)

L'Artisan - Mure et Musc Extreme (Sex Sex Sex)

Serge Lutens - Fleurs d' Oranger (orange flowers, strong and simple and beautiful)

Geez, there are just too many. I wouldn't mind buying them ALL for the right girl, though...

anywhere i could smell some of these? higher end department stores or anything? hmmmm? well i got a while, she's younger.... college age if that matters....

I got my wife Guerlain Shalimar...she made it a "special occasions" scent--ugh; of course, code for "it stinks!"

She is happiest with Yves Rocher Ming Shu or Avon Petal

Channel seems popular with all women, given the price i am not suprised though, but it is a nice scent!

Had a GF who Eternity smelled awesome on her and another smelled really good when she wore White Linen. My wife does not wear hardly any fragrance, and she hates the two above. Oh Well.

Vuarnet have a nice one for woman, recently issued but quite rare it seems...In a square pine wood box, inside a kind of triangular marine buoy, pink bottle...a wonderful scent indeed, just search for Vuarnet 1960 Pour Elle.

Same presentation and name (1960) for man but in a blue bottle. It was awarded in an contest design named Flacon d' Or (Golden Flask) or take a look at their site
