What's new

Woah...now that's got a kick!

Got the Proraso Pre/Post Cream on my latest shopping spree after seeing all of the rave reviews of their products on here, and man, I did not expect that! That was some intense menthol action, but also one of the best shaves I have ever had! My skin is feeling great now!

I don't know if I love it or hate it, but at least now I know what I've got myself into!

I have been looking to try a menthol pre shave product. Can anyone offer a comparison of Proraso with the Edwin Jagger pre shave? Does Proraso or Jagger have more of a menthol kick?

The Edwin Jagger pre shave is colder. They both work about the same, but if you like the scent of Proraso shave cream, the Proraso pre-shave will compliment it nicely.

How do you guys use it as a pre-? I can't seem to find out what is the ideal / intended usage - instead of a pre-oil? In addition to? Applied on dry/wet face? Rinse off before applying shave cream/soap or leave it in & coat over it?

Now all you need to do is rinse it off with some Osage Rub, then check into the hospital for frostbite.

While the "classic" way is to apply a small amount, rub it into the beard, and then lather over it, I've never had success doing so.

Here's what I do, FWIW:

1. Wet hands and get a fairly large chunk out of the jar (just under a teaspoon)
2. Rub hands together, then rub all over beard area for 1-2 minutes. If it starts getting dry, add just a little water
3. Now you can use either Kyle's Prep with a hot towel, cool towel, or just use water splashes to hydrate (I find 6-8 to be sufficient)
4. Lather as usual

I occasionally use it as a post-shave, taking a smaller amount into wet hands and rubbing it into the shaved skin. Then I do a cold water rinse. Especially invigorating!

Proraso pre-shave cream is the only product I really cannot do without.

Anyone try the sensitive skin formula of the pre/post? Haven't gotten around to that one yet.

I tried the older formulation. Barely had any menthol, and had the same scent as the tub soap. I felt its efficacy was a little less than the green label, but that may have also been due to using it fairly early in my DE shaving journey.

Yes and yet I'm not sure if I like the smell of not BUT I definitely miss the menthol scent. I'll finish the tub and return to the original version.

When I use it, I put it on after my face is prepped. I shave as soon as I get out of the shower, so that is my prep. When I use the pre/post, I use it rather than splashing some water on my face here and there as I build a lather. But I work the lather onto my face right in top.

Big improvement for me. Of the 20 or so products I've tried it's one of three that I will never be without. The other two being tabac and proraso soap. 3p pre shave is very similar but a little less menthol.

I use the Prroraso PRe/Post cream every day (since I started using strights). With the DE razors I did not notise much difference in the shave (just the menthol sensation), but with straights it was noticable.

For me, I apply it to a wet face, let it sit for a few minutes then lather over it and shave. I do not reapply between passes.

I learned about this early in my wet shaving journey, and have been a fan ever since. I recently tried the mild formula, which also seemed to work pretty well, just not as much kick to the scent.

I also use 3P sometimes, but I've noticed when it mixes with certain soaps, it can have a very slight ammonia type scent. Not bad though, and definitely works.
