WM Neumann Aftershaves

I recently took receipt of two W.M. Neumann aftershave products- the Bay Rum balm and a splash named 1911. I have found both to be excellent. My skin has a tendency to be dry so I often use a balm as a final aftershave product. With the exception of Captain's Choice Bay Rum and Krampert's Bay Rum, I have yet to find an alcohol containing splash which actually hydrated my skin to the point where a balm wasn't necessary. That is until I tried the 1911. The 1911 is the third alcohol containing splash I have used which actually hydrates my skin very well. In fact, after 3 uses, I feel it hydrates my skin as well as many balms I use. Additionally, the scent has excellent staying power, on me >3 hours.

Both products seem expensive per ounce, but the quality and efficacy seem top notch.

For those of you looking for a high quality Bay Rum balm, I would recommend this one highly.

I've been trying to rein in my spending this year, but Neumann's bay rum soap & AS splash is getting harder & harder to resist.

I agree that these are quality products with fantastic classic scents. Maybe even some of the most healing type AS out there. Healing is what I look for in an AS. I plan on ordering more.

1911 reminds me of dried down base notes of obsession cologne. The woman loves it.

BUT, the price. What in the world is going on? 30$ for a 4oz bottle of splash made in the US is steep. I see some very nice and well sourced ingredients listed, but still ... ouch

WN needs to offer a B&B discount ...

  • Organic Aloe, Witch Hazel, Slippery Elm Bark, Marshmallow Root, and Chickweed--Soothes and calms irritated skin
  • Kosher Vegetable Glycerin--Naturally hydrates and softens the skin
  • Green Tea and Blue-Green Algae--Powerful natural antioxidants, encourage the healing process
  • Nettle, Milk Thistle, and Black Willow Bark--Well known for their healing and astringent qualities
  • Tea Tree Oil--Naturally fights bacteria

Petr-

I agree on all accounts. The aftershave and balms I have from WM Neumann are VERY healing/moisturizing but I agree, per ounce- the price is very high.

On a per ounce basis, WM Neumann's aftershaves are almost as expensive as D.R. Harris aftershaves.

That said, 1911, Heartwood and Signature aftershaves are simply the best aftershaves that have ever graced my mug. They are up there with Floid Blue and Razorock King Louis aftershave spray. They are just as good in every respect and even better in some areas. They blow Speik, Musgo and Proraso out of the water.

So in short, are they expensive? Yes. Are they worth it? For me, definitely.

Shaverjoe: I just read a review of the aftershaves on Shaving 101 and he talked about the "wide opening" on the bottle making it diffi ult to pour out just a little of the product. Can you speak to that? Do these bottles not have a reducer in the neck, or do they just use a reducer with a large opening? I've tried the sampler pack and have been intending to buy a bottle of 1911 and Heartwood, but as expensive as these are, I would hate to accidentally pour out more than I need!

Crap. Tea Tree oil. Guess that means I won't be getting some. That stuff burns me up something fierce.

These are my favorites as well. They leave a nice soft skin that even captains choice does not provide for me.
My 1911 has a reducer that seems to work well.

I figured they probably had a reducer in the neck. The Shaving 101 review just rsised a question in my mind. Thanks for the info. 1911 and Heartwood are on my wish list. When I went through the sampler pack I was very impressed with these aftershaves. They also seem to have more longevity than other aftershaves I use.

RR King Louis AS is the most healing AS I've used. I need to try WM Neumann's AS.

The WM Neumann bottles I have possess what I would consider a standard reducer. The same used by another great aftershave selection- Captain's Choice. The flow is easy to control.

Sorry, the photos are very low quality- but they demonstrate the size of the reducer.

I'll have to agree on these, I have a bottle of the Bay Rum, Love it! Also loved the heartwood. Still working through my samples but have yet to have one I "didnt" like. Will be buying more of their scents ASAP!

The balms do not seem to "sink in" the skin and give the feeling of a layer of "stuff" on my skin even after an hour.

Odd, I haven't found that at all with the Bay Rum balm that I have from them. After a couple of minutes it absorbs very easily and cleanly. The skin care that I get from it is astounding. Any time I have a bit of irritation or skin issues it's amazing how quickly it soothes it away. I agree about the price but man, this stuff works really, really well!

I recently purchased a bottle of Lime & Mint Rum Splash. Excellent and very worth the $30.00 price, considering that with my last 2 orders, they also included a bar of Soap. The 1st order had a Peppermint Leaf Bar, and my 2nd had a Lavender Bar. Very nice and the shipping was insured by the Co. Adding in the Aftershave, Soap and Insurance, I feel the price plus the shipping $7.95 was reasonable. Orders over $60.00 are free shipping. !!!
